95 polaris sportsman 400 front strut oil seal install depth? Help!
I replaced the hub seals. No issues. Flush with hub. I have destroyed two $20 seals in 5 minutes installing the strut seals. Mechanic for 30 years and lost guys. I feel so stupid. They drove in easily with a correctly sized seal install tool and installed like common sense would dictate until the seal was all the way in. The problem is that by doing so, I've destroyed two new seals. Its like once the seal is all the way in flush, there's seal distortion and not enough room for the rubber lip to rebound after axle install. I've never seen a hole where a seal was installed partially but now wondering if this is the case. I (regrettably)didnt study the seals well before taking both sides out and cleaning and prepping both sides while waiting on parts . If the seals are to be recessed why aren't there shims or tabs? Or a way to perfectly set the depth? You can't stick the axle in and then be able to see the contact point and center it. I'm dumbfounded. I would so appreciate some help. I read a post from " the legend " (old polaris tech )
and he mentions it being set at a correct depth not driven in till Flush inside. I just want to make sure I'm doing it right. I want to learn the correct method.
