I was out riding this weekend and ran into a stick that pierced my CV boot and boot guard. I am almost sure that I have seen an upgraded boot guard that is stronger than the plastic factory one. Does anyone know of a website that I can find this at? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also I have a installed a Warn A2500 winch and wanted to know if anyone has installed a second battery. If so where did you mount it at?

Thanks

Tore mine over the weekend also.I was wondering if you need the special tool for the clamps or if a pair of crimpers or needle nose plyers will do? I ordered my cv boots($29.00 each) from EPI along with much needed outer tie rod ends($42.00 each).

Those cv boots shouldn't cost you more than $8-10 bucks w/o new clamps. I saw the prices in EPI and can't understand why they are so high...

If your lucky you can get the clamp on and off with a pair of channel locks and a flat head screw driver. They are only good for or two changes before they get all bent out of shape. They special pliers would be a nice.

Polaris makes a full set of plastic skid plates and a-arm guards that work real well.

TRY PARTS UNLIMITED FOR THE ALUMIUNM GUARDS. WATCH WHEN YOU PULL THE SHAFTS APART TO CHANGE THE BOOTS. TAKE A PERMENANT MARKER AND MARK BOTH SO YOU LINE THEM UP THE SAME WAY WHEN YOU PUT THEM BACK TOGETHER. I KNOW THE REAR AXLES ARE SPLINED IN A SPECIFIC ORDER ON THE 500 SPORTSMAN AND MOST SHAFTS ARE. IF YOU DON'T GET THEM LINED UP THE SAME THE MACHINE WILL WOBBLE AND MAKE NOISE.

Polaris CV boots are only around 10 dollars, I tore a rear one and it was 50 dollars to fix at the dealer, one hour labor and 10 bucks for the boot.

I have torn three (3) front boots on Scrambler 500's and replaced them myself. I did buy the boot clamp tool and it really helped. The clamp tool was $25, but well worth it. You can snap the shaft out of the wheel cv joint (snap ring) with a quick jerk and then do the same to put back in place. No alignment of shaft is needed. Hope that helps. Boot kits with clamps and greese pack are $20-$25.
