The IRS suspension on the rear of the SP 400 is about as comfy as it gets in the rough stuff, I can stay seated over stuff my freinds either have to slow way down for or stand up to go over it. if you do allot of slower speed, rough woods riding the SP 400 might suit you better comfort wise. no matter what 4x4 you ride with you will not get left behind on the SP, sure you might loose some drag races with the Xplorer 400, but the suspension on the SP will allow you to keep up or lead in the really rough stuff.

Seriously though I highly doubt either of these machines will make you unhappy to own. Most people would love to have the "problem" of choosing between a Sportsman and a Xplorer 400. Either way you win with those two.Just assess they way you are going to do most of your driving, and buy the one that fits your needs.

I ride with a guy in group with one and it runs great. I also like my 400 Sportsman. I road his today and it was fun. The Sportsman makes smoother even power while his Explorer has more high end power and speed. I like both but I went with the Sportsman because I ride slow trails and the ride height helps alot. Basically if you like high performance like top end then the Explorer is the one for you. If you like more slow end riding then the Sportsman might be more for you. You will like either one. Both Polaris machines are top notch.
