I'm assuming I might have a few questions, so I'll selfishly start a thread for myself...hopefully I'm not the only one with these questions. I bought a 96 Sportsman 400L that was partially disassembled and now after completely rebuilding the engine, I'm putting it all back together. Since I didnt take it all apart, I have questions on cable/hose routing, etc. So far ive found answers to most of my questions but the first one I cant answer is as follows:
What is the rubber bumper piece under the carb in the attached image? Is it in the correct spot? I took the carb out, but I dont remember it contacting anything. All engine mounting points lined up, the oil line is on the correct side of the reed box so I know thats on right...I looked in every schematic I can find and i dont see that rubber piece listed anywhere. It's badly torn so if i can find a replacement I'd like to get one.
I am guessing it's an anti-vibration rubber to help stabilize the carb. I could be wrong, but I think the 400 2 strokes had a lot of vibration where it effected the fuel flow. make sure you change the fluid in the hymnodic balancer. i think i remember reading something about it will affect the run ability. Again, these are guessing information..
