I came across a 98 Scrambler 400 2x4 that looked pretty clean. They were asking $2800. He said new was around $5000. This seemed like a good deal. Am I missing something?

I have not ridden a scrambler and would like feedback from polaris riders. I have a warrior but would like a 2-stroke for the snap. My wife could possibly ride it easier with automatic. What are pro's and con's of this machine?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I looked up the Kelly Blue Book on it and it says $4325, but it doesnt say two or 4 wheel drive but 2800 is a deal. My girlfriend loves the automatic, i am not sure if she would have even tried to learn to drive it if it had been a 5 speed. Not that she could not have done it, but it would seem like to much work and now that I have a fully auto, I couldnt go back to a shifting model. I owned a 1987 Warrior I really liked it allot.
She will really like the fully auto. And that sounds like a really good price.

Dude that sound like a good deal. Have you seen it up close or in person ? Does it need work or maybe a cylinder rebuild ? If so estimate the cost for that and maybe chew him down a little bit more. Is it stock or are there modifications ?

Good Luck

I'm sure he said 98. There is a 2x4 in the 2000 brochure he gave me. It appeared stock and very clean, no cracks. I did not ride it or start it , I wasn't all that interested at the time. I guess I'll stop back a look a little deeper. I'm just a little concerned about an auto on hills. I like to control the gear and revs and am sceptical that it would, so called down shift like a manual. Having a 400 in a 2-stroke could be interesting. I wouldn't want to scare my wife off the thing since she has only ridden 4-strokes.

There was no Scrambler 400 2x4 in 98. It would have to be the Sport 400-which is 2x4. As of 2000 its called Scrambler 400 2x4 prior to that it was the Sport. If its a 98 it would be yellow. Take care!
