I have a 98 xplorer 300. It has been a great machine, with the exception of alot of maintanence. But I have put over 6000 miles on since it was new. Check kbb.com for the blue book on this. The main thing to check is how the chain and sprockets look. They are not a high dollar item individually, but there are 3 sets of spockets and 3 chains. It can all add up in a hurry. It does have a low range and plenty of power for trails. It is not a fast bike, but it does great for average riding.

Yeah, I'm sure it is a good quad for trail riding, and recreation. If you are looking for speed, then go for the Xplorer 400 or I was even impressed the the big Magnum. I would suggest taking someone that knows a lot about quads down to look at it with you. That's the only problem when buying used. If you could get a hold of a compression tester, then I would recommend bringing that too. Just my thoughts.
