Almost hate to ask this but I am having trouble tightening my chain on my Xplorer 250. I am not at all mechanically inclined. So I don't think Polaris people should burn in hell because they put a chain on my quad. The dealer showed me how when I bought it but , All i was interested in was riding it I paid zero attention to what she was saying.
It has gotten looser, the dealer told me they will tighten it monday for me, but is there a trick to it?

It tells how to do it in the owners manual that should have come with your Xplorer. If you can't find it, I can try to explain it. It's not tough, but it's a pain to get the tension right. Everytime I get it right it loosens or tightens before I can get the bolts tight again.

I have a 2000 trailboss, I think it is the same...

I loosen the 2 bolts holding the trailer hitch.. then loosen the 2 bolts below the rear brake assembly (the manual doesn't really expain this). There is a hole in the sprocket housing (plate to the right of the sprocket), but a phillips screwdrive in the hole and roll the maching forward until it slides in, keep rolling and the chain tightens.

I'm not mechanically inclined.. but you can't tell can you?

Chain is no problem on my machine. I don't have one. I did have a 99 Explorer and i traded it in for a 2000 Expedition. The reason was the chain and the chain only. I would of kept the 99 Explorer if it was shaft in the rear. The 99 Explorer is an excellent machine except for the chain. It is one of Polaris's best sellers but if it was shaft in the rear they would sell way more quads. And yes I am mechanically inclined but tightening that chain 3 times in 550 KM is a bit to much. I love my 2000 Expedition which is Vamped all around but it does not have the get up and go like the 99 Explorer. But boy does it have lugging torque. Polaris has come along way with their improvements. And i would not trade it in for any other brand except a Larger 625 Expedition if they ever built one.

Happy quading and may the winch be with you.

Thanks for the help, i dont mind it being chain drive, keep the weight down and the price once i get it down i wouldn't car if I had to tighten it every week. Have to agree shaft is better in the end, I am sure the way it is going they will be all shaft drive, except maybe the sport models.
