Should I be concerned after going thru fairly deep water with my 2000 Explorer 400? In other words, should I be concerned about draining water from certain components on my atv? I am open to all suggestions. Thanks.

No need to be extremely worried, these machines will go through water pretty good. Some things to check/service after a water ride:

1. Grease the entire machine. Its a good idea to hit all the grease zerks after a water ride to push any water out of the bearings.

2. Clean and lube your chain. I like to clean my chain, run it to heat it up, and apply Maxim chain wax.

3. Check all fluids for contamination. Check the hubs, gearcases, etc. for any sign that they took on some water. I have heard of counterbalancers on the 400 taking in water.

4. Drain the starter. From what I have read, the 400 starter is down low and can take on water. If not drained, it will freeze the starter.

5. Check the airbox to ensure that there is no water in it and check that the air filter didn't get wet.

6. Check that the radiator didn't collect any mud during your water/mud ride.

These are just some of the things that I can think of. Hope this helps.

Make sure that your recoil handle is sealed, water can get in else throught the recoil hole.

I ride in deep water at least once per month. I grease all fittings and WD-40 the chain after a good cleaning. I pack the wheel bearings twice per year. I still have the original chain and I have never had to replaced a bearing. Keep an eye on you airbox also.

i use marine grade grease on my 500, i also put some grease in the pull start handle to keep water out and i added a ventline to my overflow bottle cap and ran it up under the hood, this keeps mud etc. from entering your cooling system and eating up your water pump seal.

I take my clutch cover off a couple times a season, and put a bead of grease around the groove that the gasket sets in.
