Just,
THats a difficult question... as for dyno figures.. who knows and who really can use those figures.
As for speed and acceleration, the Trail Boss being a 2 wheel drive and chain drive probably has the advantage. But, for useable power,(what you "feel" at the rear wheels) Thats does have to do with engine output, but it also has alot to do with gearing..
If you plan to do alot of pulling, I'd stay with the Honda simply because of the shaft drive.. If you want/need 4WD, then the Trail Boss isn't for you.. (I think it only comes in 2wd)
If your machine is in good mechanical condition, I'd suggest adding some aftermarket exhaust, air filter, and jet kit.
If you still want more they make camshaft and piston kit for even more power.
Good Luck!!!!!....

I am also wondering about the new boss, I am waiting for one to come in for my son. I am still unsure which would be better for him. He is 11 has been riding for 5 yrs and can ride the pants off my Sportsman. He has out grown his Yamaha 80 and want to get him something he can keep for a long time. I am shying away from the Tblazer for unknown reason. Maybe I feel 325 is a better value. Any comments?

Greetings,
The latest Dirt Wheels reviews the new Trail Boss. Overall, they gave it a very favorable evaluation, but they thought it felt as if it was geared too high. I think this is to be expected given the intended use of the machine. Its listed as a recreational/light utility model so it empahsizes mid-speed cruising (2X4 only) over low-end grunt.
I checked one out at a large dealer (who sells every brand). While I can't comment on its performance in actual trail riding, I found the ergonomics to be excellent -- it has a good, full-sized feel to it even though its a mid-size engine. I'm 6' 2" 220# and it was fine for me. It also appears to be a really good value. Given the banter in these forums, I had some concerns about reliability, but the dealer (who had at least one of everything in stock and really knew the details) said he's sold 38 of them since they were introduced and not one has come back with a problem.
Thanks,
Rod [98 450ES ...and its yellow]
P.S. I also looked at the Trail Blazer. Its much more of a sport bike. Also, the dealer was quite willing to concede that the 2-stroke engine is more problematic -- higher performance potential but just a bit more tricky to operate and maintain. I know some people in here really value a 2-stroke, but he definitely leaned toward the Trail Boss 4-stroke as more family-friendly.

The Trail Boss would be more user friendly. But both are good machines. They are really close in price. I have the 250 Trail Blazer motor in my 2000 Xplorer 4x4 and it runs great, I rode with a 2000 Magnum 325 and was quicker all the way around. So I assume the Trail Blazer being way lighter than my Xplorer would be quite a bit more sportier then the Trail Boss. They are really the best buys in the ATV world in my opinion. I think next year there will be allot of 250 Xplorers around I own one and for 4200 it is a nice quad.
