My question is... On the upper support, how much play should it have ,and when to change it? I can see a little slop between the steering shaft and the rubber when i rock the handle bars from side to side and front to back. I ride it pretty hard, [but not like i stole it] .. no abuse, just a good workout. i guess what i'm saying is... should it be worn out already? i don't jump it, just a hill climp here and a powerslide there. 2001 polaris scrambler 500 2x4 . 1993 yamaha blaster., ported, milled, jetted, piped, reeded, stretched [orignal seat] ha! . 1984 honda 125 3-wheeler . 2000 chevy silverado 2500 4x4 ex-cab [to haul'em]

scarey

Is you scrambler 500 an early release 2001? The way to check, does it have the steel braided brake lines or all rubber ones. If it has the old style brake lines it also has the old plastic lower steering stem bushing. If this is the case, you need to replace it with one from HPD. It is real easy to do. Post a reply if this is the case and I will detail the instructions on how to do it. We replaced my buddies 2001 Scrambler 2x4 in about an hour. Hope this helps.

I like my 2001 scrambler 2x4 plenty of power I have a megamax II exhaust on and found out that it is probably one of the best you can get make it loud or quiet.

I have a early 2001 with the plastic bushing my dealer gave my a hotseat bushing because i complained about the slop but when I put it on the sterring was to tight he said it would wear in but it didnt I even sanded down by the stem best thing I found out to do for now is to take out the rivets and put the screws in they hold the bushing tighter for now.

magnum mud , peterson , 3 sportsman, thanks magnum, turns out i have the early 2001 model, but my trusty dealer had the newer style in stock.. slipped it on and helped 100%.. no more sloppy steering. and to answer peterson's question... I LOVE IT! the only two problems i was haveing were the steering slop..repaired that today, and a little ticking noise,, i can't locate it,, but it's not affecting performance at all!!!dealer says it's the weights on the clutch, and not to worry about it, BUT...i'll find and repair it {things like that bother the heck out of me!!}...and 3 sportsman,, did your bike come with the trick exhaust? if not , what kind of performance improvement did it have? did you have to re-jet the carb.?

No I put the megamax II exhaust on so you dont have to rejet its new and dont want to mess with the warrenty? Its tuneable the more disks top end the less more bottom end. You can make it quiet or loud.
