Ok two easy questions about my SP500...
1. I've noticed my rear brake drags, as evidenced by squeaking when driving and the resistance I get when jacking up the quad and turning the rear wheels by hand. The manual says to correct this issue I need to adjust the brakes??? ...but offers no more specifics. Can anyone suggest a course of action? I found an adjustment for the front brakes but not the rear.
2. I'm planning on taking the plunge and installing my Warn 2000 winch in the coming couple of days. I have seen lots of posts/opinions on wiring this turkey. So, for the record, what is the best wiring method that is both easy on the quad and delivers the best power to the winch. Should I do away with the solenoid? Does everyone mount the goofy switch on their rack? Is there a better place?
Thanks to everyone in advance. Don't know what I'd do without this forum...

Mounted the solenoid under the left rear wheel well next to the battery. Put a toggle switch on the steering pod to engage and disengage. Mounted the directional switch on the front left fender above stickers. It seems to work best for me, knee's do not hit directional switch, and easier to operate if sitting on the bike.

Ok first things first there is no adjustment on the rear breaks They all squeak at somtime the older ones were real bad try a harder pad or a different pad like www.boxbreaks.com he has brass pads that work. Second Take your stock 8 awg wiring and leave it in the box along with the solinoid, go buy your self 20' of 6 awg wire from an electrical shop and some cable lugs 10 to be safe. Now make your self a set of custom wires,it is really easy to do and when your done you now have a 2500 lb winch less the remote control. Make sure you solder and heat shrink the cable ends do not crimp or it will be a reat bi#$* to get into the switch housing, I used a file and enlarged the opinings a touch to make the install easier with the bigger wire. Be real carfull When tighting up the cables to the switch u can easelly strip the lug that is made out of copper then it is new switch time i always put my switches on the rack left side and all the way to the rear. It works just fine there Or you could wait till warn releases there new rocker switch. And you could then run a double switch one on the handle bars and one on the rear rack. Have fun it is easy to do just take your time. And watch for sparks.

Hey there, Another recomendation for Box Brakes.
How often are you going to use your winch? Here's what I did. I made my own harness out of bigger wire, and just like stated above, soldered and heat shrunk all the connections. The only thing I did a little different was I mounted the selinoid, toggle switch, and the gray in and out switch in the storage box under the seat. Its not all that user freindly, but it sure has kept nice and clean and reliable. And you can still keep a few items in there also.
Good luck,
Dave

There is NO adjustment for the rears and yes,the Polaris stock pads are JUNK.Call Gary Box at 601-645-6076 and ask him for a set of rears [35$]and you'll be glad you did.His brakes out last ANY other pad by AT LEAST a 2-1 margin.I allways keep an extra set in stock.
Sorry I cant help on the winch,
Bill

Because I rarely ride at night I hooked the exciter wire for the solinoid to the tail light, now I just turn lights on to run winch & the solinoid is not powered the rest of the time.

Thanks for all your help everyone! Sounds like box brakes are the way to go. My pads are at about 60%, so I'll just deal with the noise a while longer - a few more rides.
It also sounds like the heavier wire is the way to go with the winch. Is there a consensus on the solenoid issue though? What am I risking by not installing the solenoid?
Thanks again!!!
