Swingarm bushing on a scrambler??
#1
My swingarm bushing on the left side of my scrambler 500 has alittle free play in it. Does anybody know how to fix it, like what size wrench will fit on the nut on the swingarm and does anybody make a better bushing. Does the whole swingarm have to come off or just one side? Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
About a 2 years ago the swingarm bushings in my Xplorer 400 went a little sloppy - just before a big run that I had been planning for months.
The dealer promised to get the parts (really cheap too) in on time, but they failed to do so. To get access to the nut was not overly complicated, I just started taking things apart (shock, PVT case, etc) and tightened up the nut a little. In order to get access to replace the businngs I believe you have to remove the secondary (back pully). Have not had any problems since.

My,
The swingarm bushings on my Scrambler were a little sloppy awhile back. I just took a cheap wrench, and ground it down to fit in the cramped working area. I "tweaked" both sides and bent the lock tabs back over to hold them in place... Thats been atleast 6 months ago, and its been fine ever since.. I WOULD love to find some graphite impregnated bushings if they exist... But, whether they do or not, I don't know...
Good Luck...

There are lock tabs on the nuts?? Do you remember what size wrench you used? I don't have anything that will fit right now so I need to buy it, the correct size would be very very helpful.
Thanks,

My,
Yeah, there were lock tabs on my 97 Scrambler swingarm bolts. As for the wrench, it required a thin wrench, and not wanting to grind us a Snap-on, I just wnet to the local hardware store, and bought a wrench that was slightly smaller than I knew I would need. I put it on the bench grinder and thinned it down, then ground the open end to fit the bolt.
Good Luck!!!
