Hello Clindst. I dont know which is faster. I have had my xpedition 425cc up to 57. I think
I had some throttle left. I was starting to get chicken. I weigh 150 lbs. 5th. gear on the xpedition is overdrive so it does have a decent top speed. It is shaft drive and is a nice ride. My guess though, would be that the
mag500 is probably faster.

Oh, I guess you asked 2 questions. I wish you
would not ask a question like which is better. They are both great machines. I was interested in the 5-speed so thats why I bought the xpedition. I did not buy it because I thought it was better then one of the other polaris atv's. One of my daughters had a hard time learning how to shift my 5 speed. So its harder to drive, for beginners.
You put them on an automatic and they only have to deal with the throttle and the breaks
and a way they go.

To A Team. question, does xpedition have high low range. Answer, NO.
It simply has 2 wheel drive and or 4 wheel drive choice with a small push switch under the right hand side handle bar. Then 5 speed shifting plus reverse and neutral as you wish. I also can switch from 2wd to 4wd or vice versa with out stopping, as long as the rear wheels are not spinning.

So 1st. gear 4wd - full power
5th. gear 2wd - full speed - overdrive

If you love to shift, its fun. I always drive in 4wd 2nd. gear through deep mud and every once in a while, I get mad at the mud and drop it down to 1st. and the machine acts like its a tractor. There is no high/low lever on the machine.

ps: Im calling neutral 2wd. or 4wd 1 gear, so
we have 13 gears and there was no need
for high/low range...
