Painted Rims???
#1
Hey Guys,
Rather than going out and buying 4 new rims for my Sport, I was just thinking of painting mine. A friend of mine painted his "aluminum" and they look pretty sharp. Do you think that the paint would stick ok? I ride in the mud and rocky trails, and couldn't bare to put new aluminum rims through that kind of abuse. I'd rather just repaint mine every so often. Thanks for the help.

Sure it will stick ok if you do the proper preparation . tell ya how to do it I was autobody repairman And painter for 27 years. get you some aircraft paint remover and some scotchbrite scratch pads the red ones 2 is plenty. paintremover can be washed off with watermay take a couple of coats to get all the paint off and most of the time it will only take it down to the primer leave the primer on the rims scratch up the primer with the Scotchbrite pad use water it will cleanup the rims better. If you have bare metal spots they will have to be primered and resanded. now your ready to paint let the air out of your tires break the tire loose on the side your going to paint you do not have to take the tires off the rims Mask off your tire and paint the rim. I just did this to my rims on my 2 Kawasakis and I painted one with silver and one with just solid high gloss gray and I like the gray better got the gray at checker auto parts .Hope this helps
