I think you'll be in for a run for your money....i'd guess it depend on the drivers and traction

It will probably be closer than you think. You will probably win though at the end.

With good traction you should be able to pull him, with low traction he will hole shot you bad (assuming he has 4x4) but you would just be catching up about 40mph I would guess. Just be glad he isn't getting a 400 with some mods on it, I have one and have wasted several 400ex's on it in drag races and through some rough trails. The ex has much better suspension but if your a big guy you can buffalo the Scramblers around better than some would think.

jefffoxsr,

Prepare to give him the "beat down" of his life. Unless you're racing in thick goopy mud.

Are the new 500's that slow?

It's not so much that the 500s are that slow, or that the 400EX is that fast. The 400EX weighs more than 150 lbs LESS that the Scrambler 500s. Given motors of equal horsepower, the lighter machine will win every time.

Mike,
The thing is my SC400 (though slightly modded) beat 400EX's to about 40 mph BAD.

Andrew,

If I'm not mistaken, your Scrambler is pretty heavily modded out and a two stroke. This is something you can't do on the 500 four strokes he's talking about. Other than a complete rework of the engine (with turbo and nitrous to boot), you just aren't going to get much more horsepower out of the 500s. You can change the cam, add a pipe, put on a new carb and you still won't be at or even near our level of performance. I believe Polaris has done this for two reasons. One is the polution thing. The second is to keep people from modifying their machines to make them faster, thus less law suits.

And don't forget for the people who think more cc's means more power. I have been in a few heated arguments debating that the 400 is faster than the 500.
