Why did Polaris ever discontinur the xplorer 400, i mean that thing has a 500cc 2 stroke, that bigbore had to haul!

Also i think i am gonig to get a Xplorer 400, i already have a Honda 300 4by4, it does anything i want it to, but not enough performance, soni think ill go with the Xplorer because it can go into adn out of 4wd for more recreational riding, such as
donuts (thats practially inpossible with a all time 4by4) also the auto tranny gets better acceleration, that shiftiing get me behind my friends Xplorer 300, so ill show him im going for the Xplorer 400, i like the sporty feeling of it , adn especially the concentric chain because if i jump i wont have to worry about streaching out that chain, or breaking it! So if anyone else has any comments on my future perchase......say something!

Good choice the 400 is awesome! I have only rode one once but , one sweet machine. I ended up with the Xplorer 250 4x4, which i also like allot but compared to the 400 there is no comparison.

The Xplorer 500 was bascally a red Sportsman 500 with out a handlebar mounted headlight. The Xplorer 400 is the biggest 2-stroke atv made by Polaris.

Also, the Xplorer 500's seemed to be faster than the Sportsman 500's.

Why would it seem faster?

it probably seemed faster because it is lighter, and also made a little sportier, maybe the long travel susupension etc.

No, I rode both the Sportsman & Xplorer 500 in '97. Both were bascialy the same, except the tires, color, and headlight pod and I couldn't tell a difference between the two when riding. They were the same price, same weight. I liked the Xplorer better. It looked better, and I don't care for the big light on the bars of the Sportsman, although it does work well.

I really don't understand why they even brought the Xplorer 500 in the lineup, since it was so close to the Sportsman. I think if it would have had a straight axle in the back, it would have made more sense.

A friend & hunting buddy has one, and it looks a lot sportier than the Sportsman does when put next to one.

The first Magnum made in 96 I beileve. It was a 425. It was Polaris's first 4-stroke.
