Hey guys, one of my friends has an Expedition 425 and an RM80 dirt bike and both of the bikes have accumulated some rust on the rotors, and i was wondering how you could clean the rust off of them instead of getting new rotors that cost $90 or higher? My friend locks his bikes up on his carport and i've told him over and over to cover them up with the tarp he bought especially for that, but he's too lazy to do it every time after he rides and he makes excuses like the wind will just blow it off and i've put it on several times for him and tied it down and as we go the hang of it it didn't blow off anymore but he won't cover them up unless i help him and he has let the rain and snow blow through his carport on them so they have developed rust spots on the brake pads, but does the guy listen to me, heck no! Sorry for makin this post so long just to ask that little question but i had to blow off some steam, cuz it pisses me off so much becuz he won't take the time to cover them up but then he whines when rust spots develop on his brake rotors! Any suggestions would be very helpful!!!!

Peace out dudes!!!!

As far as I know, rust on brake rotors won't cause much of any real problems... The rotors on most cars will rust after sitting for a while, but after just a few uses, it rubs off.

This is just my knowledge... it could actually be detrimental to the rotors, but I've never heard of rust causing any problems.

rust accumulates on the rotors from mosyure in the air, or from being put away wet. either is not a problem. take it for a ride, and just lightly hold in the brake while moving so as not to put a major strain on the engine, but just enough to produce friction between the rotor and the pads. this should wear the rust off pretty quickly. or you could spray the rotors with break cleaner and wipe them off
