I will be installing my EGT probe/guage tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any tips?

Here is what I do know:

1- Drill hole anywhere on pipe as long as it's 6 inches from base gasket(pipe gasket?) and install temp probe.
2- Check 1/4 throttle temp: 800 to 900 degrees.
3- Check 1/2 to 3/4 throttle: 1000 degrees.
4- Check WOT: 1200 degrees.
5- Peak power at WOT is 1250 and meltdown is at 1300 degrees.
6- Too hot = too lean, too cool = too rich.
7- To lean out main jet I go lower in number? (just to be sure)

Any other tricks to it?
How do I change the pilot jet on the 39mm carb?
Base gasket...is this the one at the base of the cylinder or the gasket before the pipe?
Where to mount guage?

Thanks guys.

The base gasget is the one at the bottom of the cylinder. you are right on track for everything else.

As for mounting it look at my 400. I have it mounted on the hood.

One suggestion is to turn the gauge itself so that your peak temp, say 1100*, is at the 12 O'clock position in the housing

Thanks 400L. Thats a good idea for mounting the guage. Do you have any problems seeing it while riding...or is it something not looked at while riding all the time?

Do I need a sealer for the probe once it goes in the pipe?

Remember, this is a good spot for baby steps. Don't try and fix everything all at once. Change one thing at a time. Start cold and work up to hot. Get WFO set up first as long as everything else is within safe limits because your main jet effects from 1/4 throttle all the way up!
