Has anyone had any experience with the Xplorer 250 4x4? It's one of the most inexpensive 4x4's and I was wondering if anyone's bought one yet, seen one or any comments on it? thanks.

My cousin has a polaris 250 4 x 4 that is a few years old. I dont know if its considered an explorer or not. I think so. He and his wife ride on it and use it grouse hunting every year. Both he and his wife like there atv allot. Its light and when they get hung up on a log or something like that. Its light enough for them to rock it over a log. He said that his machine has been reliable. He told me he has been in some pretty rough places with his machine. Thats what I can tell you...

The xplorer 250 4x4 is new this year {2000}. Polaris used to make a xplorer 300 4x4, and a xplorer 400 4x4. This year they make the xplorer 250 4x4, and the xplorer 400 4x4. I am thinking about buying a xplorer 250 4x4 myself. After shopping aroung I feel that the xplorer 250 is one of the best values in its class. Since the 250 is new this year I don't know how well they hold up, but I have a friend who has a xplorer 300 4x4, and you would not believe the abuse his machine can take. And he has never had any problems as of yet. I think the xplorer 250 4x4 is a good atv. I have found that it is the lowest priced full-sized 4x4 that you can buy.

While the Xplorer 4x4 is a new ATV for '00, it's not really a new model. Basicaly the same thing was for sale a few years ago. I think it was called the Trail Boss 250 4x4, but I am not positive. Of course the '00 model recieved a lot of updates that weren't on that machine. Bascialy it has been reintroduced.

I own a 2000 Xplorer 250 4x4 and it is the best ATV I have owned yet, I had a 1994 300 Honda 4x4 before it this is by far a nicer Quad and i paid 5200 in 1994 for it! 4200 plus tax for the 2000, my girlfriend and I ride it double allot and it does not sap any power from it that we can tell. The racks could be bigger and more lighting, but that is my only minor issue and that is a subjective one at that. I ride mostly with a 2000 Polaris 325 two wheel drive Magnum and a 2000 Kawasaki Prairie two wheel drive, and i am a little quicker than those two and when we fill up , the last time we rode the Prarie needed about 1.5 gallons mine took 1.7. so there is s minimal gas penalty for the two stroke. They each paid 3-500 dollars more for there two wheel drives. It does have a chain in the back, but even with two people on it allot and over 600 miles it has been tightened once. Took about 20 minutes. My dealer does it for free. I would 100 percent reccommend my Xplorer too anyone. I have not measured top speed or anything like that, we ride in the woods and it really does not matter allot. I would bet 45-50 would top it out. one of my favorite feature is that i can switch out of 4 wheel drive. It does not seem to be any slower or have less power when it is actually using the front wheels, it amazes me how it just kicks in the front wheels and you dont even know it till mud is flying at you from 4 wheels. It is not allot louder than a 4 stroke, it is some but not annoyingly so.

Yeah it looks allot like a Trail Boss 1999 model, that is one of the reasons i like it, The Trail Boss has been around a while and from the people i know with the Trail Boss and Trail Blazer they have been reliable and long lasting quads. Relatively tried and true stuff. A neighbor has an older 250 4x4 and his kids pound it hard and it never gives up.

I guess I should have put what type of riding I will be doing. We mostly travel on narrow trails thru the woods at less than 10mph with an accasional burst of speed to climb a hill. Usually my wife rides with me and the kids follow us on the 90's. I really want an automatic and it must have a low range. Four wheel drive could come in handy. Sounds like this will be the machine for me. I need to head to the local dealer and ride one to be sure. $4200 plus tax is hopefully what he'll want also as sometimes he likes to add and extra $200-$300 on top of the suggested retail. thanks for the help. More replies are welcome.

It will be great for that type of riding, we ride in heavy woods were I use low range allot, and it climbs like a goat and it easy to get through tight wooded trails. I bought mine close to the end of the season so there were no price increases, he wanted to move his quads to make room for the sleds, I didn't score any kind of a deal but paid the asking price.

My girlfriend really likes it allot she is 5 foot 3, and she drives it allot. it is not an overwhelming machine like some of them can be. 4 wheel drive is way handy, even if you dont use it allot, it is nice especially if riding with two wheel drives. I don't use it allot but it is nice to have , when the trail turns crappy , and turning around is not an option. Can always turn on the 4 wheel drive and go through it.

I read an article about the new 2000 250 4X4 and it seems to be the best value on the small 4X4 market. I own a 1993 Trail Boss 250 2X4 and it had been flawless. The engine is the same as mine with updates for better performance. The Trail Boss is tough as nails! I swim, mud and jump mine and it has not failed me yet! Remember, the 2000 250 4X4 has some inexpensive mods that really make it run! For $325 in mods the machine will each alot of bigger machines for lunch.
Do not worry about the chain drive. I have the original chain on my 1993 and it rarely needs adjusting.
The only maintenance is to grease the chasis and drive fittings and keep the air cleaner clean. I have always used Polaris oils which was recomended from friends.
If I had the $$$$$ I would buy one!
