He’s right, the 500 is twice the machine the 325 is. That’s just my opinion but I’ve owned both. You guys who love your 325’s don’t need to start sending me hate mail, if you’re happy with your machines I’m happy for you. There’s a lot of truth in the statement the none of us really “needs” any more power than a 300 can deliver (at least for recreational riding) but I’ll take the smooth, quiet, powerful purr of the 500 all day, any day.
As far as the 325 making it up hills, our 325 was actually my wife’s ride. I and the other couple we frequently ride with all have SP500s. I usually lead, with my wife behind me and them behind her. There’re about 10 miles of gravel roads between us and the “trails” and part of it is gently rolling hills. Even in these gradual hills at 30 mph all she could do was peg the throttle and feel the bike slow down before it got to the top, with the other two Sportsmans stacked up behind her and me way ahead. She hated it. The acceleration on her 500 Mag makes it feel like a 2-stroke compared to my heavier Sportsman. Great bike!
It could be that it’s not the engine that lacks power (although I never cared for the noise and vibration of the air cooled motor) but the rest of the bike might be just too heavy for the power plant. Whatever the reason that made it such a dog, I’m glad to be rid of it.

mr.magnum, I'd have to agree with clindst and floodrunner about getting something more powerful as I, too, have a Y2K 325 4x4 and have similar complaints about the powerplant in this bike.
It is a capable 4x4, in it's class, but it just doesn't have the kind of power I need. Of course I didn't realize this until after I bought it, but it's never too late to trade it off and get another one...more is better.
I will say that I haven't had any problems with the 325 magnum, it just doesn't have enough power for the weight, at over 620lbs, it is not a light 4x4.
The 500 mag is next on my list.

Thanks guys for all the help i was just worried that it was only my machine that was doing it, and nothing mechanical, i think i will stick with the mag 325, and maybe one day buy a sp500 or mag 500.
I can say this though it has plenty of power for me in low range, when pulling or plowing snow.
thanks again and happy trail.

I have had similar problems with my Y2K Mag. 325. I have been able to get a little better performance by using High Octane gas. It still won't keep up with an Explorer 400 or Sportman 500, but it does a little better.
Magnum 325 4x4: Great suspension, great traction, great price, decent power. Oh well, you can't have everything.
