Here are a few pics from recent rides I went on. Some on my Scrambler 500 2x4 and some on my Magnum RMK.

Jerry,
those are some great pics! i'd love to buy that land with that long-range mountain view and build a house there!

the pics of the magnum RMK- it kinda looks like a silver sportsman to me. what's the differences between each model? they don't offer the RMK in my area so i don't know much about it.

What's up with the ORANGE water in those streams?

Later,
MT

Jerry

Cool Pictures. I live in about the flatest part of the country (NW Ohio) and don't get to ride in the hills to often.

Nice Pictures where is this!
The only thing is you mention in some of your pics about no belt slip, you better not suck in any water, where i'm from that's a puddle, where we start being a little cautious is when we get up to the racks, ya the racks. We have some really deep crossing where the machine starts to float a little, but i'm on a yamaha grizzly too. I've seen some other auto's suck in water where I cross. Anyhow nice area your in.
By the way how is the reliablity of the RMK, it looks to be more reliable with that new front DIFF they got off of Bombardier. That RMK also looks nice.
Good luck!

Jerry;

I agree with your boy from Quebec! It doesn't count being "up to the AXLES". I ride in North Ontario normally, and we cross bigger water than that for sure! BUT, it's a good idea to have a plug wrench and screwdriver to drop the float bowl when you get over the fenders! LOL! Thank God the winch still works after she's swamped! Daggum beavers anyhow! HA! For some reason that water WILL put out the fire in the motor for a while. I had my knee high boots on tho so it was OK. But they were a good foot too short.

I think we may have a diff idea on a nice "spot" too. I can certainly handle the skeeters, and have learned to deal with the black flies (which as I understand you DON"T have in California), BUT! I'm stayin' away from Scorpion Lake! I'm sorry, I draw the line there! LOL!

MT:

The dark water is from draining swamps and pine or ceder forests. Lots cleaner than the water in our rivers. We just got mud in ours.

Lots of questions there guys. I'll try to make answers short enough not to take up to much time to read. Thanks to you all for taking the time to look at the pics and responding!

mtpockets:

First, the RMK is actually a Magnum series machine. Swing axle rear suspension instead of the IRS system on the Sportsman. It is also Polaris' first ATV that is full time AWD. You cannot disconect the front drive system as you can on any other model Polaris 4x4. It also has a much stiffer suspension system. Which I might add is something I'm looking into softening a bit. It has the Park-lock in the gearcase so you don't need to always lock the breaks on hillsides. And it has a much larger rear brake rotor that does give a better level of rear brake effect.

Second, the "orange" water is actually as I understand it iron sulphides that leach out of the old mines upsteam. There is not much in the way of vegitation that grows along the stream banks, at least within a few feet of the water line because of this. This is in an area that was heavily mined for rare metals from the eighteen hundreds up until the 1940's I believe. It's in the vacintiy of a place called Iron Mountain which I guess was one of the worst contaminated sites in the U.S. Much of it has been and is being reclaimed. Still a lot of old mines though that leach out into the watershed.

Magnum Mud Man:

Come on out here to the left coast sometime I show ya some pretty nice riding places all in the mountains!

yam8:

This area is northern California (not the bay area i.e. San Francisco), we're up on the north coast just south of Oregon. Great steelhead and salmon fishing up here too! Don't tell anybody though, OK?

When there is enough water in these streams to put the water at the racks here, I don't think I want to try crossing these streams! The current would be so fast that you better have inflatable pontoons to save your bacon!. Seriously though those comments were all in fun. I know how some of you guys get in the real deep swamps and that is a type of riding I don't often have the opportunity to try out (would be fun)!

To soon to say on reliability? Had exceptional service from 99 Magnum 500, first guy that looked at it bought it too. I don't have much reason to dought that this unit will be equally as reliable. I do like that visco lock front diff. for going down hills with 4 wheel engine breaking! I don't like it for not being posi when you really need it!

ox:

I don't think I want to get that deep! That sounds pretty radical, wear waders next time,! lol. As for Scorpion lake....you did notice that there isn't any body else there either didn't you? LOL!

Sorry guys, short as I could make it! Thanks again.
