I just installed a "tiny tach" on my scrambler and am not sure if it is working correctly or not. at idle, it is reading around 2800 RPM. does the scrambler have a multiple spark, or does it only spark once per revolution? how many RPMs should i be idling at?

What type of tach is it? Are you sure it can pick up the correct number of pulses per rev?

 

remember the 400 is a 2 stroke so u gota be careful that it isnt set up for a 4 stroke other wise ur rpms will look a bit high

the tach is was made by TINY TACH. i said was because I took it back for a refund. apparently the 400 scrambler has more than one pulse per revolution for the the ignition system. so it was reading too many RPMs. i called the manufacturer and they said they make other tachs that will work on machines with multiple pulse signals. does anyone know what setup this machine has? two, three, or four? i think you go by the number of magnets on the stator(?). thank you.

The 400 needs a tach to read 2 pulses, the 500 engine 6 pulses. The Sun mini tach is around $30 at Zuto Zome for the 400 and works well, just don't hook up the light wire.
