quad bashing

i don't frequent this forum much but when i do there is always someone bashing polaris. why?? polaris makes great quads it just depends on how you use them and how you treat them. i have an arctic cat 500 auto and i know it is not the best quad for everyone but it is best for me. i think people who bash want to make themselves feel better about their quad by making others feel worse about theirs. i am not against poking a little fun now and then but when it turns to ridicule and antagonism i must draw the line. being told that i just spent $6000-$7000 on a piece of crap would surely pi$$ me off.

I hate it too. It's in every forum. It just gives people the chance to vent. But, instead of getting p*ssed, I just laugh it off. I think it adds a little fun now and then, especially when little 13 year old Johnny comes in once in a while and shares his intelligent intellect with us. lol

It really bugs me when people say crap like that. Nobody considers Polaris's Sport quads because they are so heavy (trust me, I don't care much for the size of them either).
Let's compare something like a Chevelle 454 SS to a Honda Civic CRX...The CRX is small, light weight, good handling, and quick...but really it has NO SACK. The Chevelle is big, heavy, sucky handling, and very quick...and has a LOT OF SACK.
To me, you could call the CRX a Honda 300ex, and call the Chevelle a Polaris Sport/Scrambler 400 (or 500). In that aspect you could call a CRX a Sports car, but would you call a Chevelle a Utility Car? NO...you'd call it a Muscle Car.
The Polaris 400 motor is no slouch...Unfortunatly the weight of the Chassis does hold it back quite a lot when it comes to Handling and things like that. But in a straight line it will eat most other Sport quads for breakfast (and just for the record, straight line performance is not important to everybody).
I'm sure that I'm probably going to be told otherwise, and I may be wrong on this, but it's just my opinion.

It's understandable when you see a post about someone bashing a Polaris. But from my experience, I've had so many problems out of it that I can see why people are quick to complain. Look at my screen name, and you can probably tell what I think about mine. I go to the race track, and I'm the only Polaris to even roll into the gate. Believe me, I like it that way. But that tells me that people know there is a better quad out their. But when I talk to people out and about, and I mention I ride my Polaris 400 Sport, everyone start to ask me, "Do you have lots of problems out of yours??" And that comes out of a lot of former owners, or people who knows someone that owns a Polaris.
I'm not bashing Polaris by any mean, I think the 400L is one of the best motors you can have for racing. And the automatic lets you concentrate on the track more than worrying about shifting. But I will have to say Polaris really needs to think about their frames a little more. Sure, it's great for dragging and maybe trail riding, but not for hitting a tabletop. That's why I'm in the process of building a full out race quad on a 250x frame.
Hopefully Polaris will design a lighter quad next time. But I can understand if they stick with the same frame because maybe more people like it that away. You don't see Ford putting out a Taurus with a 351 like they run in Nascar. Not many people would buy it because they it's a eco car. And how many people actually race??? Not many.

Actually the Taurus SHO isn't far from that. It's only got a 3.0 liter V6 (on the older models, I don't want to talk about the crappy newer ones with the V8's). It put out more ponies then their Mustang GT (with the 302) did, and was faster too. Didn't handle as good though with the stock suspension.
Sorry, I didn't mean to be a smart @$$ about it. Trust me, I don't mean it like that at all (I'm just fond of the SHO...and best of all it's not a Ford Engine, It's a Yamaha...Maybe this isn't the best forum to say that in...lol).
I agree with everything else you said! Take care.

Yeah, the SHO engine is made by YAMAHA. I believe that it is a Ford block but I may be wrong. Either way Ford didn't even assemble it...it was shipped over from Japan Assembled. I used to know the whole story, but it doesn't come up in conversation very often so I forgot. I have to give YAMAHA credit on that one...it's a great engine. It's just too bad they didn't build the whole car.
