Gee, My year 2000 xpedition 425cc 5 speed has
done that a few times. It dont backfire but on a few occasions while just driving along it would die on me, acting like its not getting the right amount of gas. Minnesota is
frozen right now so I will check into this problem in the spring. My atv always re-started right away and would run the rest of the day just fine. Then the next day it would do that again a time or two. Actually, my guess is that the carb is starving for air. Seems that alot of us have the same problem.

I found the solution at 11:00 last night. If you have adjusted the idle and it still does it(sputtering) adjust the ETC cable. That was 100% of my problem.Loosen the jam nut and turn the adjustment nut until there is very little play in the throttle.This should work.
