I'm a little confused on how to get new CV boot on.I have the machine on a lift with the front drive axle out of the front strut.I cut off the damaged boot. Now what?Do I remove drive axle from center gearcase and forcefully slip on that way?How do I remove it?Do I take apart CV joint?how?I have a service manual but it very confusing reguarding this precedure. While I'm asking a drift punch would be?Thank you all for helping.Duh,almost forgot 2000 scrambler 500 4X4.CV protectors ordered already.

The drive shaft will pull out of the wheel hub . It has a circlip on it that will compress under some pressure of tugging on it . It is kinda tapered inside as to let the circlip compress . Give it a few sharp tugs on it and it should come right out , however sometimes they put up a fight .

Three tugs and presto! Thanks Rick!!Should I remove all the old grease with parts cleaner? It does not look contaminated but I did ride a few times with a large gash?

Yes, absolutly, if you think there is any dirt in the grease, clean it out. Otherwise the dirt will wear away at your joint and you will be buying a new cv joint.

Over cleaning won't hurt a thing . If it was mine , and the grease looked real nice , I wouldn't be digging around a lot , but if you see crud in there clean it and regrease . Have a nice weekend .
