Variable tranmission machines will consume more gas than it's geared counter part. That's the nature of the beast. Why do you think that Snowmobiles have such large tanks?

Did anyone ever try them "Fuel Packs"? They are $75.00 in Dennis Kirk. They hold 3.35 gallons and have a 800 lb. load capacity. They are flat and strap onto your rack. Just wondering if anyone ever gave em a try. ???

My Xpedition gets about 20mpg. I had a bud weld up a tank to mount on the front rack, it holds about 8 gallon. The tank is plumbed into the fuel line, just turn off the gas switch, & turn on the valve on the tank.
The guy I usually ride with has a 5 gallon tank on the front of his scrambler. They work great on those long Canadian trails!

I just bought 2 new 2005 . The Sportsman 500 and the Scrambler 500. All I can say is WOW. Both are a graetride but the Sportsman is a cadillac.
Gas guage sucks on the scrambler but I think I can find a aftermarket one.

Where did you gat a rear rack?

Man! My mileage really stinks then! I only get about 34-38 miles per tank out of my scrambler. and that includes the reserve! Plug always looks good and I have made no mods to it.

For the heat "problem", try a product like Engine Ice, or one of the others like it (don't remember all the different names) some of these will drop your coolant temperature as much as 50 degrees, and will make your raditator much more efficient at getting rid of excess heat.

My 02 500 scrammy 2x4 & my 02 wifes 02 250 tb use the same amount of gas, about 22 miles per gallon, my buddies two 325 trailbosses get about 25, but for differance in power I will take 500 any day! The auto trans is going to use more gas,as for the fan mine comes on more when riding slow not as much when riding at higher speeds.

I can usually get between 45-55 miles on a tank. Depending on how I am riding. It can be more or less. Your fuel mileage is good, actually a little better than most. If I go on a long trip, I always bring gas. You never know. I am about even on gas with my buddies 03 Predator too. But his Beartacker seems to eun FOREVER on gas.

As for the heat issue, the fan does come on at a lower temp. If you are really conserned, you can install a temp gauge and even wire the fan to a switch. I added Purple Ice by Royal Purple to my coolant as well as a 20 fin inline supercooler and it helped. My buddies fan on his Pred seems to be always on.
