The shifter on my 2000 sportsman won't shift into high or reverse. If you pull it all the way back, it goes into neutral, and forward (whether you try to go into high or low) it goes into low. What should i do to fix this?

Shifting linkage needs to be adjusted.

Any input on how to do that? And what this is to be done to?

The rods that connect the shifter box (up front, what the shift lever goes to) to the transmission in the back, need to be adjusted. There is a jam nut that you loosen and then you turn the rod itself to make it longer or shorter, just like a tie rod. When done (when it shifts decently), tighten the jam nut, and you're good to go!

To add to Roosters post, after you adjust the connecting rods, check the movement of the shifting lever with the engine off, to make sure you can pull it out to the side to allow shifting into low. I had to readjust mine this morning and high and reverse were fine, but I couldn't get it into low. So a little fooling around with the rods, and I was back in business.

No kidding, I almost rounded off one of the shaft threads without looking first!
