The carburetor intake is usually on the airbox lid... Or atleast it is on a Magnum 500.. It runs right up behind the fuel tank (under the seat)
As for the PVT... What you are probably seeing under the left front fender by the fuel cut-off is the PVT Exhaust duct..
For the most part.. thats what most people snorkel... It comes from the top of the clutch cover on the left side of the machine. Right by your left knee, there is a flexible piece of rubber that makes the connection to the exhaust ductwork. Disconnect that upper piece of ductwork and remove it... Replace it with flexible duct... Just make sure you waterproof all connections.... And use quality hoseclamps...

so from what you said your sayin that the exaust for teh PVT is by the fuel shutoff, i need to know this becaise i am thiking of getting a Xplorer 400, and I rode my honda trx 300 through a river, up to the bottom of the seat, almost ot the tank and if i get the Xp i dont want to be sucking in water!
