Hey guys, with all of these huge displacement quads being released, what is in store for Polaris. Kawi now has a 650 and the Grizz in now a 660! Surely Polaris won't just sit back and let the Sportsman 500 remain the follower. Anyone have any secret info on what is ahead for 2002 and possibly 2003? I hope it is big and awsome!

I think that they probably will come out with a new sportsman to compete with the 650,660, and quest. But my question is how much $$$ will it cost? Think about it. If the '02 sp500 are $6999 then how much will the sp700 be?

i have heard that Polaris will release all there 2002 models the 2nd weekend in August. I cant imagine Polaris not making a machine to compete with the griz660,kawie650,and quest650. I have heard the engine is a 680cc twin, and it will also have many other new stuff.

later

I wish they would try to compete w/ the sport quads, a light weight, double A-armed w/ shocks, manual trannied(didnt they make a auto clutched manny), 4-stroke big bore. that would be awesome, they seem to be good int he utility department. Sure they will make the 700 or whatever, but there reputation is set as a utility maker, but in the sport department they never seem to leave the auto tranny and heavy bikes. Plus lower the seat height a bit. and maybe a new radical look w/ the plastics. Thats what i want. Sorry for venting, i love polaris and wanna see them whoop the big guys. cause if they dont do something im gonna have to get ride the the polaris and get a cdale.

I found something out from a pretty good source. Yes Polaris is coming out with a big cc utility quad, but a sport model with the big motor will not come out right away.
Here's the big news. In late fall or early winter Polaris is coming out with a sport model(in the Scrambler series) with a manual clutch with the 400cc & 500cc engines and using a different suspension up front. Also the guy told me that there wil be no big floorboards, only foot pegs. A little more aggressive plastic. Alot more aluminun parts are going to be used. He also stated that the 400 will weigh in a little over 400 lbs and the 500 model a little over 430 lbs.
I know this sounds like a load of crap but I trust what he is saying. I can't really say how he knows this information but I trust him.
When I asked the dealership where I purchased my Trailboss they told me that a new sport quad was coming out this fall. When I asked them if it was a bigger 600cc quad they said no. They said lighter versions of existing quads and possibly different engine-tranny combos.

THEY HAD NO IDEA ON THE COST OF THE MACHINE. GO FIGURE

I just ask myself this....

Who had the two biggest four stroke and two stroke "sport" machines until the DS came out?

It wouldn't suprise me if I saw a 680cc Sport quad from the good 'ol boys over there in Minnasota.

Who knows, it seems like Polaris makes what they wanna make.

Look forward to seeing Polaris and Honda enter in the Big Bore class someday.

About this price thing, Think about this, all the new utilities are the same price as the current 500cc quads. So if Polaris plans on keeping the H.O. around, then either one of two things have to happen unless they want to be total morons about it and have the same price tag on both. Either they have to lower the price of the H.O., which would in turn lower the price of the other quads in the line up because those who would buy a 400, could get the 500 for the same or close to the same price as the 400. So all quad prices have to be reduced or they are going to be losing sales on one or more models. Or two, the new quad will retail for more than the current H.O. and the new big bores, which is dumb considering someone can go out and save money buying a griz or kawi and still have the same features as the new sportsman unless they have something up their sleeve. So either prices will go down on all quads or the new one will be more expensive than the others. Lets hope they decrease in price.
