Steve, look at your reeds and see if you can see a gap between the bottom of the reeds and the reed plate. If there is a gap then they are worn out. They should be completely flat and you shouldn't be able to see through them. Also look for dark spots on the reeds. There shouldn't be any holes or frayed edges. I am running the boyeson carbon fiber reeds on my 2000 xplorer right now. I also have the delta v-force reed cage. I didn't notice any more difference between the two. It seems like the carbon fiber reeds last longer and are about 50 bucks instead of 150 for the delta v-force reed cage. You might want to think about getting the carbon fiber reeds. I run those on all of my bikes and they hold up really well. After you put in reeds it will run really rich. So you will have to go down a little on your main jet. You should buy the boyeson reeds and take the extra hundred and get you a wiseco piston and rings and have the head decked to raise the compression a little. That will give you more performance than the delta reed cage ever could.

Thanks a million Meangreenmachine.Sure like to know half of what you know on these bikes. The other day i toke out a plug on the exaust(the larger one toward the front of the bike),and went to try it out. When i came back i checked the spark and it was white. It sounded like a scrambler,if it made a difference?, i don't know i would have to try it out with my friends HO.Do you think this is a good idea and is it worth it?When i go hunting this fall i would be able to put the plug back in,and my bike would be quite again.Just got up from my nightshift and going to work on my quad.Let you know about my reed's. Thanks again. Steve

Steve, when i first got my bike before i put my exhaust on i also took out the plug in the spark arrestor. It gave it more power but leaned the motor out. You do not want a white spark plug. You need to change your main jet and richen it up. If you have never messed with your main jet then it should be a 210. Try a 220 and check the plug again. I would hate to see you blow your bike up by running it too lean. Remember that 2 strokes always run their best before they blow up. So if it is running extra fast make sure you watch the plug. It is tempting to go out and rip the hell out of it with your new found power but watch the plug. If you need any more help let me know. Good luck.

Aftermarket reeds will give you more snap in the throttle. You will notice a difference right away after installing them. I have delta v-force reed cage and the boyeson carbon fiber reeds. The delta v-force replaces your stock reed cage. It gives instant throttle response. It sells for about 150 bucks. I am currently using the boyeson carbon fiber reeds. I didn't notice any less power than the delta reeds. It seems the same. They are only about 60 bucks. I wore my reeds out in the delta reed cage within about 8 months so i figured i would try the boyeson. They are the same price as the replacements for the delta v-force. Either way they give you more power over the stock reeds.

The flow is much better on the Delta reed cage than the Boyessen and the stock reed cage. The Deltas will give you slightly more top end, but the Boyessens are better for all around use. The Delta V-Force 2s are also tuneable.
