I like polaris, I even own one, but, I just don't see how a quad with 50c.c. more than the competition and 150lbs more than the competition can really, honestly say, what competition. It has been said that Kawasaki had to detune the 650 signifigantly because of transmision durability concerns so that does say that there is definately the potential there for the 700 to smoke the Kawasaki and the Grizzly too. But how did they figure out how to make a belt drive more durable? Or is it not belt driven? Hmmmmmmm?[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

Its called Snowmobiles that have a lot more power than this 700 engine that is how they will make it work they have already done it not like Kawasaki. Also I talked to my dealer the one that told me there would not be a 700 and he said he received all the information about the SP 700 yesterday he ordered 4 of them so I know they are coming and his rep told him about a new sport bike that Polaris is hoping to release mid 2002 year and the way his rep said it is it would be a Raptor eater it should be in the 400 pound range with a manual clutch and 5 speed shifter.

Keep in mind that the 2001SP500HO is 100ccs smaller and 130 lbs heavier than the 2001Grilly600, and the HO still outperfoms it.
If they make the motor a higher reving motor with a lower geared tranny with heavier springs, it will hold up just as well as the 2 Stroke snow mobiles with 150HP.

Keep in mind Greg, traditional belt transmissions lose efficeincy at a rapid rate after about 8000RPM. Unless you mean higher revving to be 8-9 grand, then there's a lot of work that needs to be done to modify the tranny to put up with very high speeds.
However, Honda's done this before... They managed to attach a belt-transmission to an F1 car with a 16,000RPM redline... so it CAN be done, it just takes a lot of work (and money).

I understand what you're saying about snowmobiles, but I don't necessarily agree with the logic. Mainly because it's kinda apples and oranges. Snow mobiles are on snow wich spins when you mash the gas, this takes a lot of strain off the belt/tranny. Once they are up to speed, the momentum helps keep stress off of the belt. On the other hand take a quad with a 700lb trailer on hard pack and pull it up a steady incline it is very hard on the belt. Or get all four wheels stuck in some thick mud. You don't have the slippage in the surface(snow) like you do with a snowmobile, you have it in the belt in a lot of cases. Plus most people don't ride their snowmobiles in 4ft of water[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img] like they may their quads. Just my thought though. Maybe Polaris are belt experts because of their snowmobile back round, after all I've never heard of any one, say, burning up a belt on a Polaris quad before. Sorry about my stupidity.

there are more rumors than we can shake a stick at...we'll just have to wait and see. Most of this info is coming off of 2-3 main sources that could be right, but then again, we'll just have to wait and see.
As far as the tranny not being strong enough...don't worry, they will make it strong enough. It's the weight and cvs that I am worried about. I don't really mind the weight if it has a bulletproof drivetrain and loses the traditional "polaris POS cv joints"
