Drag racing tommorrow night need some tips
#1
Stock 400 Scrambler with K&N 18x11x8 holeshot clones on rear, 21" fast trekkers on front. Track is going to be tacky. Should I set the rear shock soft or firm, best way to take off? I am in the 300+ lb range so I've got lots of weight to move around. Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

Well I don't know if I can help you much, but I would hold down on the brake and throttle up until the tires just about break loose. Lean foward quite a bit, the front end will come up. Hope this will help a little

I've heard some guys setting the shock as soft as possible and using a rachet tie down to hold the rear end down. Loop around bearing housing & grab bar. I guess it wheelies alot less that way. Might look kinda goofy though. The firmer the shock setting, you may wheelie easier.
Like OhioScrambler said, brake rev it like a car. Getting that "rubberband" effect off the line will help. The short tires should help too.

If you do tie the rrear down, do the front as well. The momentum of a sudden launch will cause the front end to rise.
Try swapping in a plain spring for the race, only put enough gas in the tank for one or two runs to keep weight down, and practice your launch.
18" tires may be a tad to small, causing you to rev out too soon, or spinning too much on take off.
Aside from that with a stock bike there's not much to do.

Those tires are way to small for a drag race, your gonna top out much to soon. Set your shock on a firm setting, with all of your weight your not gonna want to let it shift to the back, your gonna need to keep the front end down. Like OhioScram said, brake torque it to a point where the tires are ready to break loose, lean forward, and good luck! By the way, what are you drag racing against?

How long is the track!!Make the shock as soft as you can, making it stiff will make it rotate on the axle and pick the nose up in the air.DO NOT BRAKE TORK THE BELT,that is the wrong thing to do,when you come to the line put it in nuetral and clear it out, that puts the belt at the top of pully, put back in gear and rev up to just before clutch engages and wait for the light.Hang on.
