My riding companion told me he heard a noise coming from the right front wheel while riding. Said it sounded like a wheel bearing. I've got it up off the ground and when I rotate the right front wheel there is a clicking noise. Is there some kind of ratchet mechanism in there or do I need to take it to the dealer and grab my ankles? It is a 425 Expedition model. Thanks for any help.

 

I've got the same problem with my 99 SP500, hope someone can help us. My friends 2000 SP500 clunks when hitting rocks with the right front and jerks the handle bars hard.

My scrambler does the same thing, the noise started last time we rode. It was a clicking noise in the front left wheel. While riding I checked it and the caliper was loose by feel, so I tightened it when I got home, but don't know if this solved anything yet, because I need to get on it and ride it agian. But sure would love to know what that sound is. It started on only the 4th time riding it.

 

I had the same noise on my Magnum 500 since it was new. After close inspection I determined that it was only the brake pads making a clicking noise because of a very minor bend in the rotor.

Your friend should check the lower ball joint and A arm knuckle. Be sure the knuckle is not bent(both sides should look the same). Also check the plastic joints at the top of the struts. I had a cracked one. This could cause a "clunk" if it has cracked and fallen out. They are very easy and inexpensive to replace. There is a plastic ball-shaped piece at the top of the strut, under the strut mount and a donut-shaped piece on top of the strut mount. The donut-shaped piece was cracked on mine. Cost was under $3.

 

I checked and you are exactly right, the pads are rattling, so at the problem is minor. I'll check my friends ball joint strut mount etc. Thanks for the help.

 

Thanks JoelPolaris, it was the brake pads making the noise. Now I wonder how I can keep the brake pads from dragging. The rotors are
just slightly warped and although it may not be serious, I'd like to
have them away from the rotors. My manual says the hydraulic brakes can't be adjusted, so I guess I'll just have to live with it.
