Could there possible be a difference in stroke between the sp700 and 780 sled motor, if in fact they are the same basic motor?

are you sure the sled engine is only 680cc??? acording to maximum sled.com they said it was 780cc. I am assuming the only difference between the 683cc and 780cc is the bore.

Low tech pushrod 700 twin 4 stroke in trailbazer chassis outruns hypersport 400 2 stroke.

Any takers.

Hey Guys the way I heard it was that they are both a 80 mm bore. The Atv engine has a 68 mm stroke and the snowmobile engine has about a 77 mm stroke. I don.t believe the parts are interchangable either. Guess we'll have to wait for the bigger engine in the sportsman.

800twin,

Now that would be interesting to see!

scottboshia,

A shorter stroke would explain the differences between the snowmobile and the ATV motor. A real pity they couldn't have kept the 780, though. It would have beaten all 'Big Bores" in a straight line drag.

Mike -- I'm sorry to hear about the SP700 being a slug, but I'm not surprised. I would have thought that they had something better than that old 680cc sled engine. That's the same motor that was talked abut two years ago when they gave a pair of them to the National Parks Service to test. The reason they did that is because no else wanted them. As I understand it, those sleds could get to about 45 mph tops. That takes sledding back into the early days with those speeds. Heck I once had a 1968 Ski-Doo with a 368cc opposed twin that would go 58 mph.

But of course the Polaris "ATV Wizards" think it's good enough for an atv. They also need to get away from Rick Mast and Richard Petty and Petty Racing with their advertising. These guys are losers and has-beens that have not come close to winning "anything" in a long, long time. They have a tough time even qualifying anymore. The King was great "in his day", but that has long past.

"What have you done for us lately Polaris? . . . not much!"

Mike, the Prarie is a pretty nice quad, only had a short ride but it's got lots of go. Don't know much else about it. Just saw the 660 Grizz the other day, but haven't had a chance to catch a ride yet.

Oh yeah, it's too bad my eariler post to this thread had to be removed by the moderator. I guess he rides and Polaris and can't stand the heat.

If my buddy out west is right, the only sled Polaris ever gave to the National Parks Service to test had a 425 or 500 single in it. He recalls it to be more like 5 years ago.

I think polaris has a very good idea when they came up with the idea to make a 700cc twin.
The only problem that polaris has is making their quads light weight, I mean come on they have great motors but the weight and frame design is a joke.
Yes I did forget to say that they do have a few good models that are best left alone, like the sp500.

You have all read my feelings about the 700, and I told my dealer the same thing. My salesman said what he tried in the parking lot didn,t impress him either. But that was the parking lot, so they let the head machanic have the 700 for the weekend to see what he thought of it since he has a 500ho to compare it to. This is what he said. The 700 has unbelievable TORQUE this thing will climb,go over,go up and through anything he put in front of it. He said the steering was much easier and sharper then the 500. No lag time what so ever on the throttle response. And he said once it hit 40mph this thing would really kick in and bury the speedo very easy. He said he put on 80 hard miles and was very impressed with the 700. Then I asked if he was getting one, he said what he tried in the parking lot he wouldn't of got one, but after trying out in the real world he will be upgrading. So after this report the 700 is back in the ballgame, bottom of the ninth bases loaded and no one out.
