The Scramblers are great quads for a lot of things. Jumping isn't their strong point though. I've gotten about 5-6 feet of air on my Sport (same as the Scrambler 2x4) and it hasn't given me any trouble, but you can tell that it doesn't like it much. I can't really complain about anything else about it though. It's great on the trails, it will go through anything, and the auto tranny is great for the most part too. I would recommend them to anybody who doesn't mind having a heavy quad, that can't really handle monster jumps in stock form.
However, test drive one and see how you like it. In stock form they are faster than a Yamaha Warrior by a fair ammount, but if that isn't fast enough for you I recommend getting the Scrambler 400 2-stroke. They make a ton of mods for those things and you can really make them come to life. Much like many people on hear have.
Good luck.

Generally the things that go wrong are small and not that expensive just a little annoying. Overall I am very happy with the SC500 4x4. All the brands have thier quirks. I generally do light jumping, mud bogs, trail riding, hill climbs, and open it up down the straight aways. I would rate it very high for these types of riding.
Pros: Pretty much the fastest stock 4x4 out there (62-64mph), Sporty feel, Is a good mix between 4x4 utility and sport quads (unique in this class), Automatic, pretty much gos anywhere, cushy ride, electric start, reverse, comfortable, bright lights, comes with excellent all round tires stock, made in USA making the parts cheeper then most japs, 4 stroke (more reliable), somewhat quiet.
Cons: Some questionable engineeringing (2000 and earlier have bad steering post bearing designs which come loose quickly, Steering post wasn't redesigned to accomidate the larger tie rod ends they just used a spacer and bolted it to the bottom of the braket, all the 500's get the motor "tick" which polaris claims is normal, chains don't seem to stay tight, contol arm bushings just shatter, transmision isn't very well protected underneath), Heavy for a sport quad (560lbs), suspension will bottom out when jumping over 2-3 foot, chain drive all around in pre 98 models, lack of low gear, low ground clearance (compared to most utilities).
Pro or Con, you decide: It pretty much is as fast and powerful as it is going to get. There aren't many worth while performance mods out there. The good thing is you won't be emptying your bank account to get better performance.

They have better ground clearance than sport quads, but when comparing it to a utility they are kinda lower average. I have the swing arm skid plate so I have even less ground clearance. They are good mudders, and I personally can't complain about any problems...never really had any. They are really a pure fun quad.

I have a 98SCR 500 it just turned 3500miles this past week. To say the least I'm very happy with it. No problems what so ever. The only mods to the engine are a HPD exhaust and clutch kit, and it did make a difference in accleration. I also put a dg front bumber on it (thanks to my wife not stopping in time until the stock bumber was well into by friends Foreman). As mentioned in an previous post the steering gets sloppy after a while, easy fix with a HPD sterring bering, easy to install and good price ($30.00 bucks). The stock tires are pretty good and last fairly long. I do have new tires now after so many miles, but I got the 589's again for the front because they were that good, however I did change the rim size to a 12" instead of the 10, and it made quite a difference in handeling by minimizing the tire roll on fast corners. Any specific questions you have post it, and I'll do my best to give you a straight forword answer, based on my experience.
