Are you talking about the reverse rev limiter?

The reason I ask is that mine or my friends doesnt have a rev limiter. Just the reverse limiter. Both of ours, the way they are built, have reved to 7500 or more with no limiter.

you reved it to 7500 or more!what mods do you have, mine rev to 7000 MAX.with this pipe (new hpd race pipe)i must run 7300-7500 rpm.
what clutch kit do you have to rev it like that?thanks.

HPD pipe and HPD roller clutch, pretty much everything HPD has. Havent you ever reved it up in neutral and had it zip past 7500? When I got my flywheel shaved it revs real easy and quick right past where it is clutched.
At what RPM are you hitting a rev limiter?

for sure in neutral it will rev up to 8000rpm,but it seem a bog at 7000 rpm wich is probably a rev limiter.
i have hpd mods also,pipe,heads,race lighten flywheel,40-36 roller clutch,aggressive clutch kit,rad valve and spacer,pwk 39 carb...
do you have hpd porting,i plan to get one soon, does the porting make more rpm in the top end?
but in high range (while running)what is your top end rpm?

Yes I have HPD's porting and it will definiately increase your power.
Your rpm is determined mainly by your pipe.
The pipe is made for a certain rpm so thats what you set your clutching for.
Pretty much your rpm is determined by your clutching which is determined mostly by your pipe.
Each pipe maker will tell you basically at what rpm they want the bike clutched.
After porting you will get to top speed faster, the bike will be stronger so you can change your gearing to get a faster top end.

If you haven't changed your plug lead to a non-resistor type, and regapped your sparkplug to .018-.020, you are probably experiencing a top end misfire. Been there, done that, try this, fix that.

Generally speaking, there is no rev limiter on the 400 two strokes. It's the pipe that determines how high the machine will rev.
