hi ok i broke somthing but with my limited knowlege i have more trouble firgureing out what i broke then fixing it once i figure that out so here is what happened

ok i was riding today and i was just warming it up around the feild and i noticed a grinding noise but at first i firgured that i just had dirt on the brake i did not totaly get out from the last ride so kept riding after what normaly would of goten that clear it was still doing it and i then started to noticed that when i let off the gas and did not apply the break i would stop but when i hit the gas it would move just fine so i look down at the rear end at the chain and right next to the chain was smoking so i jumped off and took a closer look and it was coming out of the housing where the grease zirt is

so if anyone can help me firgure this one out please help i really wanted to get to go to the badland this friday thanks for any thing you guys can do

hey i live in peoria, well im not sure about your problem but my best guess would be. water got into the bearings and they overheated. or the brakes are draging causing heat to build up and transfer to the bearing hub.

redjosh,

It sounds like you fried a couple of rear bearings. Just out of curiosity, what year TB is it?

I agree, rear axle bearings likely fried.

How often do you ride and how often do you lube? If you ride alot and never lube I agree with everone above. But if you keep it lubed they should not burn up. Also, was it really hot. It takes alot of heat to make the grease smoke.

redjosh,

The rear brake might be hanging up. This could cause the grease to smoke like that. Just ask uflg95 what I did to my split brake equipped Trailblazer when I let my son ride it. I melted the rear brake cover (my TB is non concentric drive) because I kept the parking brake partially on. I didn't know anything was wrong until my son asked if the rear brake is supposed to smoke like that. Even if the brake is hanging up just a little, that is enough to cause this to happen.

To check the axle carrier bearings, jack the machine up until the wheels are off the ground, then try to move the back axle. If there is any play up or down or front to back then the bearings are shot. While you have the back wheels in the air, you also might want to see if the rear brake is binding.

Hope this helps!
