?? Help with my CV boot change • 97 Scrambler 400 •
#1
Helllllp!
I thought changing the CV boot on my Scrambler would be fairly straightforward --wrong!
I have the 4 wheeler on blocks, the front right tire off, and the lower A arm taken off the strut mount.
My problem is this - I cannot seem to get at the inside clamp on the CV boot to remove it. Am I missing a step? Do I need to somehow seperate the CV joint 1st before removing the boot, and if so-- how?
Thanks for any help guys...greatly appreciated by my assistant (Wife) who has had enough of my cussing...lol.

Assuming your cv is the same as mine, the boot retaining rings on the front wheels had to be destroyed to remove them. The rear cv clips are reusable but not the fronts. To get them off I used a pair of channel-locks to squeeze the clip together.

I have found an easy way when you go to reinstall the boot on the cv joint. Take the joint apart and slide on the new boot and reconnect it using a vise to hold the shaft and lightly tap the other piece on there with a rubber mallet. Then when you go to put the new clamps on tighten them down to where they almost lock but won't and use a zip tie to hold it together. Then get a good pair of pliers and squeeze the two sides together. It makes it so easy and saves a lot of headaches. Then you don't have to spend the 90 bucks on pair of cv boot pliers. Good luck.

Thanks alot for the replies you two!
Using what you guys said made the job alot easier -- now I'm all done. Zip ties to hold it worked awesome while I was #Q($*@#)($ with those lousy clamps...lol.
Thanks again!
