Has anyone heard of a $50 Warranty Deductible?

I have a '00 Trailblazer that I bought new a little over a year ago. It's on it's third tank of gas and hardly ever gets ridden hard at all. When it was new it overheated a couple times and shut down, the salesman said it just needed to be broken in. About a month ago it overheated and shut down again and didn't run well after. It turns out that it had a deffective oil pump. Polaris is covering the rebuild even though the warranty has long since expired but the dealer wants to charge me a $50 "deductable".

The dealer has changed hands since I bought my TB. They ripped me off when I bought it and I'm not sure that the place is any better now. It seems to me that if Polaris is covering the repair of a deffective part that they ought to just take care of it. I suspect that what's happening is that Polaris is covering the repair but the dealer is trying to make an extra $50. At first I was releived that it was only going to cost $50 for the rebuild but the more I think about the more I don't like it.

Has anyone had any similar experiances? I'd like to know if the "deductible" is legit or a rip-off. Thanks. Let me know if you want a good deal on a "very low hours, just rebuilt, Trailblazer".

 

I have only been a Polaris/Yamaha Service Manager for a about a month. I have never heard or seen a $50 deductible. I will also add that I don't know for sure how it works when a dealership changes hands.

Did you buy the extended warranty? You state that you have had it for about a year. If you only have the standard 6 month warranty then it has expired.

When a dealer files a warranty on a unit that is actually covered under warranty, then the factory(Polaris) pays for parts and labor. If the factory(Polaris) decides to cover something out of warranty, they may only be covering the parts end of it, not the labor. If this is the case then the dealer that you take your quad to, that did not even sell you the quad(because the dealership is under new ownership) has offered to due all this labor work for $50. This would be a pretty good deal because our labor rate is about that for one hour of work. This job will take way more than an hour.

This is the only thing that I can think of that could be the reason for this $50 deductible. I don't know if this is the case but it is all I can think of. Like I said, I would ask your new to dealer to be honest with you. Why the $50. Tell them you are not a baby and that you can handle the truth. A $50 deductible is not the real truth. I am totally honest with people. I tell them like it is. I would not make up a story to cover something else.

Thanks for the help. I did buy an extended warranty but it is through a company other than Polaris. The guy at the dealer said that Polaris is going to cover the repair under warranty. I'm sure that labor will be way more than the $50, the "detcutable just sounds fishy to me.

At first the service dept. guy said he didn't know if Polaris would cover it or if we would go through the extended warranty. He said that either way would have a $50 deductable. When I questioned him on the detuctible for Polaris he said something about having to pull some strings to get Polaris to cover it because he doesn't like dealing with the extended warrenty company and the deductable is a standard thing.

I totally agree with your wanting to be straight forward with people, but I'm 99% sure that this guy is full of it. It might be best to go to the management of the place and talk to someone in charge, I don't know if this guy knows what's going on himself. I'm about ready to buy another quad from these guys' other store so I'd like to see how they handle this before I do any more buisness with them.

 

Deductibles of $25-50 are very typical, particularly on extended warranties. Mine is thru Polaris and is $25 but one of the warranty options thru polaris is $50. Why don't you read your policy, that will explain it. And yes, non-polaris warranties are a pain to deal with and end up costing you more since they work pretty hard not to cover too much.
