I have just started mixing fuel for my 97 Sport and I was told to mix 32:1 (4oz. to 1 Gallon) Is this correct? Just making sure.

Thanks,
J Prentice

Depends on motor mods, oil you are using, and various other conditions. It's a good starting point, check your plug frequently and experiement with various other ratios up to 50:1 (depending on oil!)

My motor is stock with the exception of the RCR Stage 1 Kit. I use Spectro 2 Stroke oil.I am having some problems with my 4 wheeler and want to make sure I have not mixed my fuel too lean. I fouled a plug , no big deal. I changed it and approx. 10 minutes later it fouled again. The bike backfires and runs rough. The silencer is wet with dark black **** on the inside. It smokes profusely. I ran approx. 2 tanks of fuel through it with no trouble and it ran fine. So I think my fuel is ok. But I just want to be sure. The bike also sounds somewhat muffled when it runs and will not idle at all. I have also heard some slight screaching as the motor cuts off. It is a 97 model and has never been rebuilt,so I am thinking it is probably time.

Sounds like maybe something could be wrong with your choke. That would make it foul the plug quickly and run rough. You might check it to see it isn't sticking.

Sport400LSC,

It sounds like your mixture is WAY too rich. With certain oils like Bel Ray and Golden Spectro, it pays to mix them at the reccomended ratio of 50:1. That is usually the entire bottle of oil (12.8 oz) to 5 gallons of gas. Don't worry about it being too lean a mix. I've run machines that mix at 20:1 to run 50:1 with Bel Ray with no problems.

I run AMS synthetic at 100:1 in the Banshee. A lot of people say that I'm nuts, but between myself and my two riding buddies we have owned 6 Banshees and always run AMS 100:1. NEVER 1 single engine problem and none ever required a rebuild.

Also, Sport400LSC, did you make sure to shake the gas can after you put it in your quad? I think the oil floats to the top of the gas (or maybe the other way around), and maybe you got too much oil in or something.

One more question, it sounds like you haven't been mixing it long. Did you just install the injection block off kit, or has it been on a long time?

i run the klotz R-50 (specially for 50.1 ratio) and run great, better throttle response, harder arm stretching as well, add 2-3 oz of ER metal conditioner and no way to worry about anymore, the results are impressive...

Pick a good oil (synthetic) and call that company for their recomendation.

Personnally I run the AMSOIL 100:1 in stock applications and in race applications I run it 80:1 (these are the recomendations of AMSOIL and I have never had 1 problem).

Plain old Polaris blue...non-synthetic, mixed at 40:1 with 110 octane...that's for the 14.5:1 dome though. The local Polaris mechanics testify that this gives them the least reliability problems, and least amount of residues/sludge/build-up. Besides at most dealerships, you can even buy it in bulk......more money for the 15:1 dome!!!
