Removing oil injection
#1
What is involved in removing the oil injection from a 96 Scrambler? Does that pump feed any engine bearings as is the case with many snowmobile engines, or can it be removed, the gear taken out, and the hole blocked off with no problems?

Inside the pump there are 3 bolts, then the pump comes off. The block-off plate mounts over to cover the opening. You remove the oil feed line from the intake boot, and install a bolt (plug) in it's place. Remove the oil tank, and tie up the cable, or switch to a single cable. On my '99, I relocated the battery (smaller size) and the starter solenoid up front where the oil tank used to be. Don't know how different your's is, but the stock electrical leads were long enough, so components are protected.

Thanks guys. Good info, and I like the idea of relocating the battery. Starter was beeotched when I got this thing, and the cost of a new one in Canada is unreal, so that's already been removed and plugged off. I never trust oil injection systems after the machines are getting old, so this is the reason I want it off.

I had so much fun removing mine. Moisture somehow penetrated my oil pump cover and it was nice and corroded in there when I went to take it off. I had to grind the screws down to get the damn pump off. BUT, IT WAS WORTH IT. The instructions (from hpd) are pretty descriptive so you should not have any trouble. However, it is nice to get the parts manual pictures from polarisindustries.com
