What if any are the benifits of having the winch located high in the frame as compared to siting lower in the chasis? The SP 700 will mount much higher as compared to the Praire 650 mounting down very low. I can see advantages and disadvantages to both but what about the weight distribution? Granted on an ATV with the weight of these 2 models it may not be as significant as on a old Suzuki quad runner or something in that weight range. My way of thinking would be that the new SP 700 with the winch carried a bit higher would distribute that weight a bit better and or support the weight better also. Is this any factor in any way?

i mount all my winches above the radiator to keep it out of water and not block the air flow. Brad

I think it is easier to work with a winch if it is higher anyway, especially if you have your quad submerged in mud or water, the winch is higher to access it easier.

Oh, and I agree that it probably does help cooling by keeping it out of the radiator's path. And it looks cool being able to remove the piece in the bumper to put it in.

I do agree that the 700 location seems to be better than the location on the 650. I've never had a winch and would wonder if the 650 mount location being so low would cause future problems? With the winch being down low in front ( I do believe it is well below the radiator though ) would there be potential for winch problems from the winch being in the mud and water more than say the 700 winch location? I know if you are the one stuck you would need to dig for the winch on the 650 but dont you get a better pull angle from down lower. If Im off base with this please let me know.

both of my winches are welded to the front bumpers and if i get rid of one all i do is use a die grider to cut the welds. But my quads arent new either. ------------------------------ Brad 1996 425 Magnum 1996 Sportsman 2001 Breeze

Has anyone actually seen or installed the winch in the factory location on the 700? The winch kits were supposed to be in at my local dealer two weeks ago but still have not arrived. The kit and winch must be purchased as a unit only available from Polaris at a premium price which stinks when the winch can be purchased elsewhere much cheaper. I am wondering how hard it would be to fabricate the mount? I also called Warn to see when they would have the mounting kit available and they said that they were building it exclusively for Polaris and would not be offering it for sale to the public. Also, does anyone have any information on the bumpers for the 700 SP?
