Broken strut sleeve (for lack of better words)...

This tuesday I was riding like only my scrambler can carry me (way too fast) and I'll be damned if the a-arm didn't let loose and dig into the ground and send me for the real ride of my life. What happened was the sleeve that has the bolt on the end of the strut just came apart, the sleeve stayed in the strut but the bolt just came out. I took it to the dealer and they ended up having to take it to a machine shop to get that sleeve out so that they could put another one in. My question is there a tool to remove that sleeve? Thank god that my dealer had the parts in stock and I was riding again a few days later.

That story just about sends shivers down my spine. Were you able to ride it out or did it just go out of control?

I discovered a REALLY BAD ball joint about 25 miles away from home. That was all I could think about the whole way back, was that A-arm falling off while I was driving.

I don't know for sure what you mean has "come apart".

The bolt that bolts into the a-arm is on a ball and will rotate on its axis. That bolt fell out and the bearing that it rotates on also fell out. The sleeve that the bolt and the bearing ride in was still intact. When the a-arm dropped down it dug deep into the ground and the strut with the tire crammed back against the floor boards which just stopped all movement on the left side. The quad jumped stait up in the air with the rear end up much farther than the front end and flew about 30 feet. It ended up coming to rest on the side of a steep embankment, I hit the front of the quad pretty hard and my knee is imprint in the right front fender. The dealer that took the sleeve out had to take it to a machine shop and put so much heat on it to get it out that they thought that the strut was going to be junk, but they got it out and I was riding again.
