Jack3689,
Thanks for calling Polaris. I just talked to the owner of the dealership where I bought my 700 and he says the $69.00 winch deal definitely does not apply to the 700. He read to me from his list all of the bikes that it does apply to and the 700 is not listed. My friend's 700 just came in at another dealer and this dealer was the one who said the winch deal also applies to the 700. It looks like he doesn't know what he is talking about and if my friend does get the winch for $69.00 I guess it will be that dealer's loss and his gain. Did Polaris tell you it does apply to the 700? Their website says to contact your dealer to check which models it applies to even though the 700 is pictured directly above the offer. I think this is causing all of the confusion. It is pretty sad when a dealer doesn't even know what offers applies to which bikes.

YES IT DID CONFUSE ME CAUSE I"M IN THE MARKET TO BUY ANOTHER POLARIS. I HAD A '00 SPORTSMAN 500 BUT BACK IN JAN.BUT, SOMEONE ELSE LIKED IT SO WELL THEY TOOK IT OUT FOR A RIDE AND FORGOT TO BRING IT BACK. SO I HAVE BEEN WAITING ON THE ALMIGHTY 700 TO ARRIVE. NOW IT'S HERE AND CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT. YOU KNOW IT'S HARD TO TALK THE WIFE INTO SPENDING ALMOST 9-GRAND ON A TOY. THEN I SEE THE AD ON THE WEBSITE FOR THE WINCH CALLED MY DEALER HOPING TO SAVE A FEW DOLLARS AND WHAT DO YOU KNOWIT'S NOT ON THE 700.

THANKS,
VIC

Polaris didn't mention either way but they told me that, "I could not get the winch deal retroactively", NOT that the 700 didn't even qualify. It sure seems funny that they put a picture of the 700 on the very ad that says get a winch or 0% financing if it didn't apply to that model! When I got my 700 all the other Polaris had hangtags on them advertising the winch/financing deal but the pictured vehicle was a 500HO-X not the 700 like they have on thier web site. My guess is that this deal JUST came out and that the dealers are not aware that the 700 is now included in the deal. Either way, it does me no good but if you are about to buy a 700 and your dealer refuses to give you the deal I would give Polaris a call before handing over the cash- the dealer just may not have the correct information. Don't bother to call the 1-800-POLARIS number it's only a recording- you have to call the long distance number that I posted above to get a human being!

Either way, I have about 100 miles on the beast now and I am so far very impressed. All the talk about Polaris (lack of) quality has me a little on edge but so far so good!

Oh, forgot to mention- I got my 700 ON SALE (well, less than the $7399 MSRP) for $6999 so I guess buying a winch at full price really isn't so bad. I got my 700 from Bill at Jan's Sportshop in Goodrich, MI.

Speaking of winches, I hear that the Warn 2000# and 2500# are the SAME winch (motor, gearing and case wise) , only the 2500# has larger gauge wires, a HD circuit breaker and a remote toggle switch. In your guys (and gals!) experience/opinion , is the 2000# winch up to the task of unsticking the 740# weight of the SP700? Or should I buck up the additional $150 and go for the 2500#?

The part number for the NAPA Gold series oil filter that fits the Sportsman 700 is 1356. It costs appx. $5.00 which is a lot better than $14.00 for the Polaris brand that I purchased.

700guy:

Thanks for the info. You are right $5 is much better than $15! The logical question becomes, of course, is the NAPA filter of the same or better quality? My guess is that they are probably equal.

Jack3689,
The counter person at NAPA checked all specifications including the check valve and said it is identical to the Polaris model. My friend has had it on his 700 for the last month with no problems. I know this is not what you would consider a long term test but my next oil filter will be the NAPA brand. As long as you use parts that meet or exceed the manufacturers specifications, the warranty will not be voided.

I bought the new mount and new A2000 winch for the 700.It is a nice fit.The winch is basically the same only the motor is turned a half a turn ,because the winch mounts to the plate on the back instead of on the bottom like the 500 did. Sort of hard to explain, you almost have to see it.

puller,
Is the cable release easy to get to and did you mount the winch your self? If the dealer mounted it for you, what was the cost breakdown for the parts and labor? It sure would be nice if you could post a picture of the winch installed on this thread. The winch kits are still not in at my dealer and I hope they come in soon.

puller:
Is this mount the Multimount system? You know, the one that switches between the front and back? Or is it the standard fixed front mount? The prices seem kind of steep ($450/2000# & $590/2500#) if they are only the fixed mount jobs.

700guy:
I am going to my local NAPA dealer today and picking up a couple of the filters. The counter guy said over the phone that they stock two different grades of the filer (both the same stock# that you provided me). One is the standard grade and runs about $4 and the other is the premium one and it runs about $7. I am going to give the "premium" one a go.
