Warn 2000 -vs- 2500 lb winches
#1
From what I understand, the two Warn winches are basically the same. The 2500# winch comes with larger gauge battery cables, HD circuit breaker and a remote. What has been everyones real world experience with these winches? I ask because I am thinking of getting a winch for the new SP700 I got and need help justifying the additional expense of the 2500# winch over the 2000#.

I don't have a winch yet but I have had experience with both. Two of my friends have the Warn 2000# winch, one on a Polaris Xplorer 400, and the other on a Yamaha BigBear 400. Both work good for the machines and both have pulled the bikes(and mine I might add) out of some pretty hairy stuff. I went riding a couple times with a guy on a SP500 H.O. and has the 2500# winch. It did just as good as the others, but I've seen it do some pretty crazy stuff too. He used it to pull my Jeep out when it was lodged under a tree(not a bad stuck, but a heavy Jeep), and he used it to pull a truck out of a rut. I don't know if the 2000# winches would have been capable or not, but this guy just don't care so he always offers to pull anyone out, no matter what the wieght of the vehicle. Hope this helps. Lata.
On a side note, 95% of the time I only see the 2000# winch, not as many people want to pay the extra and it seems to do just fine.

I personally think the 2500 is the way to go especially on a 740 pound machine. I have the 2500 on my Honda 450ES and a friend had the same bike with the 2000. We were both stuck in the same mud hole and his winch stalled while my 2500 pulled my bike out with no problem. As soon as my dealer gets the winches in,I will be installing the A2500 on my 700 Sportsman. I do think it is worth the extra money and does come with the four way roller as previously stated by famosrichit.

OffRder15,
I love my 450ES. It has been very reliable and does everything I want it to. I just wanted more power and a better ride, therefore the purchase of the new Sportsman 700. I decided to keep the 450ES knowing the new 700 being a new model may have some problems. Turns out that this was the right choice seeing how my 700 has been in the shop going on two weeks now for repairs. It has a leaking water pump and an inaccurate speedometer. The speedometer is on back order and the other parts are due in any day. I may eventually sell the 450 but only time will tell.

Jack3689,
I have had it out on two rides. One 47 miles and the other 44 miles. The speedometer shows 49 miles. I checked it with two of my friends who also have 700s that went on the same rides. The dealer took it on a short ride with a 500HO and they said mine registered 1/2 what the 500HO did.
