Jumps outa gear......
#1
I'm new to ATV'ing and recently purchased a 1990, 250 Trailboss 2x4.
On occasion, I have had it jump out of hi-gear. Can anyone advise what might be wrong with either the machine or my knowledge of how to drive it?
I have a idea that it could be the shift mechanism linkage. There seems to be a bit of "play" in the small ball ends on the linkage. Could it be that perhaps it is not shifting or locking into gear completely?
I have no parts manual or service information on the rig so don't have a clue where to begin looking.
If someone could copy a parts and operators manual for me, I would gladly pay them for the costs and shipping, etc.

I have a 1989 250 Trail Boss 4X4. I have had it only about 1 & 1/2 years and occasionally it would jump out of high gear, also it would slip out of low gear when going down steep hills. I found the little ball joints on both ends of the shift linkages was loose, and also the shift lever was loose too, after tightening them it stays in gear now.
