A buddy of mind has a problem with his 2001 sportsman 500 HO . It is stuck in reverse. Any ideas what has happened? Has anyone else had this problem? I think it may be out of warranty.

 

Try adjusting your shift rods, the procedure is in your manual, it only takes a few minutes.

 

Also check to make sure the bellcrank (the aluminum piece that connects the shift rod to the shifting fork shaft) is not bent. This is common.

 

is the "shifter" in the low position? if it is, or even close, take the right side panel off, and remove the top of the gear select box,(has 4 screws) lift the assembly up about an inch or two, then put it back in , but move the shifter to the rev. position. this should fix your problem.

 

He says it is stuck in reverse. So why would you ask if it is stuck in low??
