Ok now someone dropped off a magnum 500 now which one would you choose?? same thing which one will you take. Now consider pricing
mag. $6500
425 $6200
400 $5900
If you say yeah spend 300 more dollars and get 75 ccs, then why dont i spend 600 and get 175ccs bigger with the grizz. but my money is at a limit. Thanks again.

I have a 00 explorer 400 I also have a 99 mag 500
the explorer has more horsepower than the mag500, the expedition425 and the Grizzly600. In fact I think the explorer 400 has more hp Than any other utility quad made. However hp does not always mean the machine would be best at hauling, plowing etc. If I had a very heavy load I would most likely opt for the mag, not that the 400 wouldn't pull it because it would but because of the shaft drive and low end torque supplied by the 4-stroke. I have never driven an expedition but for very slow heavy pulling I think I would opt for the 4-stoke expedition. If I was doing more trail riding than work I would go for the 400 which is now shaft driven in the front and concentric chain in the rear. The 400 in my opinion is a little more fun(faster and a better mudder)than the mag or expedition but for mainly hard work (pulling plowing etc.) I would go with the expedition.
hope this helps
Joe

I wanted to refute 2 comments about the expedition
listed above. 1. the gearing is not so good on the
expedition. That was listed in a review in the feb. dirtwheels magazine but it was about the expedition 325 cc. 5 speed. The gearing on the 425
cc is ok with a good variation. They said on the 325 cc that 1st. 2nd. were the same and 3rd. was a
big jump. Not so on the 425cc. 2. The reverse on the expedition is a pain in the ***. That is just a matter of getting used to it. When you think about it, how can it get any easier. You have a small yellow button under the left handle bar. YOu
push it in and shift down. The yellow light comes on showing you your in reverse. You dont have to reach down or anything. To put it back in neutral or 1st. you dont even have to push in the yellow button. Just push upward on the gear peddle. Now, thats not hard and you can do all this with out taking your hands off the handle bars. This is considered one of polaris's nice features. You will probably see it in allot of new polaris atv's
I bet.

ps: I would like to be stranded in a deserted forest with 2 beatuifull blonds with my expedition
425 cc. Its not going to happen! Ha!Ha!.

I bought my 00 explorer400 for $5200.00 (no tax farm exemption) There is a place online that for ten bucks will tell you exactly what the dealer paid for the machine. After I got this info I started calling dealers in our area and the third one excepted my offer which was $200.00 over his total cost .I had done the same thing with the mag and got a good deal on it also ($200.00 over dealer cost). This means I saved $700.00 on each machine for a ten dollar investment each time. I can't remember the web site but if you want let me know and i'll e-mail the info to you.

Explorer 400 $4,995.00 plus tax in the Minneapolis/St.Paul market.

You'll always be in the right gear with the Explorer. But... 60 to 70 bales of Hay? How much does that weigh with the trailer? What's wrong with the truck?

We just put up a permanent fence and the truck wont fit through the gait so we use a modified trailer on a 4 wheeler, right now we use a Yamaha Moto4 350 two wheel drive and haul o 45 bales a shot no problem they weigh around 75-85 lbs apiece.
