Xpedition425 vs. Xplorer 400

Ok picture this there are only two four wheelers in the world and your choices are the Xpedition425 4x4 or the Xplorer 400 4x4, Which one would you get? Price isnt a concern. Now you live on a farm with 5 horses so you will be hauling 60-70 bales to the barn at a time. Also your gonna want a dependable one since theres no dealers to fix them. And you have some of the best muddin trails in the area. Snow a snow plow is a neccesity. Which one is the best. I really really need your help.

I have a 95' Explorer 400 and it is a great machine. It will outrun the exebition and is great in the mud. I have a buddy who has the Xpedition and sold his 99' Explorer to get one. for your conditions of pulling 60-70 bales of hay I would go with the Xpedition with all shaft drive compared to the Explorer with chain and belt drive.

I own the expedition and I dont know the xplorer well enough. I will give you some info to help you
make your choice. I have had my atv up to 57 miles
per hour. It has a great deal of power with the help of the gears. Gear power. 1st. 2nd. gear is like a tractor. You can pull allot. As far as snow
with either atv, tires are most important. You will want other then stock tires. I drove through 10 inches of snow last sunday. It was rough though. Had to drive slow in 2nd. gear. This spring i will switch from 25 inch stock tire to 26
inch mud bugs by maxxis. Both atvs are good, im sure. shaft drive is nice. I like shifting an atv.
You need to decide which type you want. Before you
buy, make sure polaris suplies fit your atv. Like plow hook up and such. My machine is so new, they dont always have everything you want yet. they are
hopefully making them. The ride is good in the woods. Probably is with the 400 also. The expedition is sold as a tough quad for work or play. I have heard that the base price now is $6,200.00. I got mine during a sale for 5,200 base
price. I spent more since I bought a winch and tammarack utility box which I like allot. I grouse
hunted with my quad last fall and it was F U N!
It dont corner well so slow down on turns. You can
go real slow if you want and it has easy switch from 2 to 4 wd. It weights 647 lbs. The gas tank holds 4 gals. and the atv gets very good gas mileage so you can go farther then all or almost all other quads. As you gear up to 3rd. 4th. and 5th. gear you loose power and gain speed. I went trough deep mud last year even with 25 inch stock tires so I really expect allot when I go to 26 inch mud bugs. I hope this info helps. Now let some 400 drivers tell you about their quad.

Both are good bikes and are fairly reliable from what I can tell. I haven't heard anybody complain about these two very often. For hauling the hay bales the expedition would be the right bike. A two stroke chain driven bike is not exactly the number one choice in that department. If you like speed the Xplorer is the best choice over the Expedition. Now down to the mud. Both bikes have the true 4wd as you probably know. So both bikes are going to do very well. You couldn't go wrong either way. I would choose the Expedition. You arent going to lose very much speed and you also have the comfort of knowing you have a shaft drive instead of a chain. Either one would be a great bike, but to answer your question it would definetely be the Expedition over the Xplorer

I would og with the Xplorer 400 you dont ahve to worry too muhc about the chain its cds or concentric, also the Xplorer is better in Snow and mud, if your going to get a manual shift i suggest to not go with the Xpedition because its not polaris's specialty, go with honda or something like that, I can almost gaurenttee that you will ahve more fun with the Xplorer 400, also it has been around longer for more refunment to occur, as for towing my friend has a Xplorer 300 and it can do as much or more than my 300 cc 4 stroke that is shaft driven
I personally would go with the Xplorer 400, also the gearing on the Xpedition i hear isnt that great, 1st and 2nd are too close and 3rd is too high, a lot of people start out in 2nd gear sometimes

I would Definetly go with the Explorer if you plan to plow any snow, For the simple fact that the Expedition you have to shift in to and out of reverese in a real screwed up way. My Father has a Explorer 400 95 with a snow plow that I go over to his house to use to plow my driveway out, and let me tell you what a nice set-up it is. It is just like polwing with a auto Pickup Just throw it in forward and stop and throw it back into reverse. It is real nice and has PLENTY OF POWER!!! My Lane to my house is a little over a quarter of a mile long and that machine will push the biggest Drifts with-out a problem. Now my experence with the Expedition. I Demo-ed one from the Dealer for three Days and it had good amount of power and speed but nothing compared to the Explorer, and was a real pain in the A$$ to get into Reverse, That's just my 2 cents worth, anyone you choose you will have got a great machine, (but lean towards the explorer you won't regret it)
