I was bored today, so I was thinking of way's to lighten the 700. I hear so many say they would buy one if it was lighter. And after thinking about it for awhile, it seems very easy to get it under 640lbs. First the tires, all you have to do is sell the tires and rims on the 700 in which you should get good money for them since there very good tires and rims. Then you go out and buy the same tires and rims that are on the Griz or Kawi. This should cut your weight by 52lbs, yes 52lbs (sp700 front weight 33lbs ea, rears 40lbs, Other tires and rims weigh 23lbs fr, 24lbs rear). So this brings the 700 down to 688lbs. Now the skid plate, this will take alittle more work, but not to hard. You get a metal grinder and grind off the welds of the full lenth 10 gauge steel skid plate and take it off. After that get some thick plastic and use the steel one as a template and cut out your new plastic skid plate and bolt it on. This should cut at least 20lbs off, bringing the 700 down to 668lbs. Next the battery, take your 30 amp bat and exchange it for the 18 amp thats in the Griz, this should take at least 7-10 lbs off since the sp700 battery is almost twice as big as the others, now your under 660lbs.I was next thinking about taking out the stainless steel brake lines and replacing them with rubber, but to much work for little weight loss. plus the SS lines are much better. Now the rest is all cosmetic, take off steel rack extensions 8lbs (4lbs each) next tow hitch I say 5-7lbs,then last take out the third light, maybe a couple of lbs. Yes I know it is nice to have a light going the same way that you are steering, but 2lbs is 2lbs. So you can see that it isn't that hard to get the 700 to be just like the Griz or Kawi in weight, 640lbs to 600 and 606lbs. So now you have a light 700, yes it does have crappy tires and skid plate but hey you got the weight down. Just a thought and don't get mad I was just bored.

What kills me are the people who get 6 ply tires (stockers popped too easy), or even a big wheel kit (and go to steel wheels for durability), add, make, or have made rack extenders (so stuff doesn't fall off), add a winch (plus need to add a heavy bumper, plus a bunch of heavy brackets because the front of the ATV isn't strong enough without the bracing), plus they weigh about 350#, and then tell me that the main reason they got their machine was because it weighed 25# less than some other one, which had all that stuff on it to begin with.
Most people never even consider their own weight. Think about it. Which machine do you think is better suited to carry around a pair of 300# people, one that has a small engine, but weighs 600#, or one with some horsepower, that weighs 750#. Since I weigh under 200#, I figure I can give up a few ounces on the machine, and still be as well off.

I realy dont know what people are complaining about.
My SP 500 is 700 lbs. 200 cc's and you gain 40 lbs?
Sounds like a fair trade to me.
I have my utility machine though. It's time for a "sport ride".

And if you buy that wolverine, you've got a gutless wonder that is only 3 wheel drive and has to be shifted.

Correction, that's a 3x4 ATV (good ol' limited slip), with half the engine displacement, swingarm rear suspension, and lightweight tires and rims.

Wolverine51, don't try telling me that the diamond tread skid and bash plates, and CV protectors don't add some weight to your Wolverine. Not to mention much larger tires. Also, don't try telling me that those 26" tires don't steal a good amount of power from you, especially since the Wolverine has 23" tires, stock, and wouldn't even touch a 700 in a drag race.

What's the listed towing capacity of your Wolverine? Oh, that's right, something just north of 700lbs. What's the listed towing capacity of the 700? More than twice that of the Wolverine.

Less suspension travel. Smaller tires. An overall smaller ATV. MUCH less power. Granted, it weighs less, but there's hardly anything to the machine in comparison to the 700.
